JEFF SCOTT, CHAIRMAN OF THE FOUR WAY TEST

Jeff Scott moved to Canton from Indianapolis in 1978 to apprentice for Gary Gerber and work in his Gary's Place salons. Jeff became manager of the salon chain in 1989 heading up education, hiring and training new staff members as well as customer service related duties. In 1999, Jeff and business partner Shelly Talbot purchased the salon chain from former Canton Rotarian Gary Gerber and have developed the company into the largest salon and day spas in the area.

FOUR WAY SPEECH CONTEST TO BE FEATURED THIS FRIDAY

Students from Canton City Schools will compete Friday in the club's annual Four-Way Speech Contest. Jeff Scott, chairman of the Four-Way Test Committee, will serve as moderator. Each speaker will be asked to apply the test to everyday relationships with other people. The contest will be judged by three Canton Rotarians.

The Four-Way Test was introduced in 1932 by Herbert J. Taylor. In the 1940's it was adopted by Rotary International and became a vital part of the Vocational Avenue of Service programs. Taylor was president of Rotary International in 1954-55.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place finishers. The winner of the Canton contest will qualify for District 6650 competition next month. The district winner will enter state finals with victors from Ohio's four other Rotary districts.

NEW MEMBER COREY VOORMAN INTRODUCED TO THE CLUB
At our weekly meeting on February 19, 2016, Canton Rotarian Tony Pierce introduced our newest member, Corey Voorman, to the Rotary Club of Canton.  Corey's sponsor is President Paul White.

Corey Voorman is a recent arrival to the Canton area.  He originally is from the Metro-Detroit Michigan area.  He attended school in Michigan at Hillsdale College where he achieved a double major in political theory and history.

Corey has traveled and lived across the United States in Denver and St. Louis where he had a brief but enjoyable career in Telecommunication Construction.  He works for Merrill Lynch in Canton, Ohio where he works with a team of senior advisors that ensures affluent families and businesses in the community are paired with a premier wealth management service that correlates directly to their success.

Corey has a heart for civic involvement which was cultivated in him as a young man.  He sits on the board of New Work City foundation in North Canton which seeks to provide job grants for businesses and nonprofits in the Canton area.  In his spare time, you will find Corey enjoying outdoor activities with his fiance who will be moving to Canton in August.  Above all, Corey is deeply honored to enjoy affiliation with this Canton Rotary Club and seeks to ever emulate its virtuous motto, "Service Above Self".

CANTON ROTARY PANCAKE BREAKFAST & RAFFLE IS MARCH 19TH! HELP MAKE IT A ROUSING SUCCESS!
Okay, Canton Rotarians! It's once again time for our annual Pancake Breakfast and Pick Your Prize Raffle on Saturday March 19th. As you should know, this popular event raises substantial dollars for our Canton Rotary Charitable Fund and the many civic groups and activities that this fund supports.

The Pancake Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, orange juice, coffee and milk. In addtion to the food, the Cleveland Indian’s mascot, Slider, will be there for a meet and greet, the McKinley Jazz Band will play, and “Star Wars” characters from the Ohio Garrison of the 501st Legion and the Rebel Legion will be available for photo opportunities throughout the day.

We are encouraging all members to help make this event a ROUSING SUCCESS again this year.

Here's how you can help:

1) Buy your Pancake Breakfast tickets! This year we are asking you to pay for ONLY $50 worth of tickets, as opposed to twice that amount in previous years (the Canton Rotary Oktoberfest has picked up a lot of the slack in our fundraising!) If you did not get your tickets at the meeting last week, please call Lauri or Barb at the Rotary office at 330-452-2882 to make arrangements to pick yours up or have them brought to a meeting.

2) Volunteer to help on March 19th! You might not think flipping pancakes, or serving breakfast, or pouring juice, or cleaning and bussing tables would be fun.....but it IS! Especially when you are hangin' with your fellow Rotarians! Sign up sheets will be available at our regular meetings. Please note that we will also need help with set-up on Friday 3/18/16 after 3 PM. We'd love to have ALL Canton Rotarians join us on March 19th!

3) Donate a prize or two for the Pick-Your-Prize Raffle! This raffle has been very successful, but, of course, we need prizes donated to keep it that way. Items you might consider include sports tickets, vacation rentals, gift baskets, wine baskets, restaurant gift cards or other gift cards, or new, unused merchandise you might have at work or at home (hey, it's not re-gifting if you donate it to a good cause, right?) You can bring your donations to our weekly meetings.

So, Canton Rotarians, step up and help us with this fund- and friend-raiser. Thanks!
