CANTON'S FOUR WAY TEST COMPETITOR FINISHES 2ND AT DISTRICT COMPETITION
Below is information that Jeff Scott, Chairman of the Four Way Test, received from Manuel Halkias, Speech and Debate coach at McKinley High School.

"Just wanted to pass along that Michael was fantastic yesterday at the District Competition ...winning the $200 second place award and beating quite a few National and State qualifiers. There were fifteen excellent speakers in attendance. He was asked to speak at the State Meeting on April 30th and we are looking to see how that can work with his church schedule as it is Orthodox Easter weekend.

We received many compliments on his performance.  Thank you for your continued support.  ~Manuel"

WEEKLY MEETING NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
At our weekly meeting on April 8, 2016, President Paul White welcomed our members to the meeting.  Rotarian Kurt Goodenberger gave the invocation.

There were no guests in attendance.

Club Secretary Michelle Mullaly asked for any "Happy" news from the members.  The following "Happy Bucks" was given:
  • Vice President Amanda Tietze stated that the Better Business Bureau was having its "Shred Day" next Saturday and there were flyers on the tables;

  • PDG/PP Bob Pattison was very glad to be back;

  • Jim Blake was very happy to announce his daughter had just given birth to Jim's fourth grandson;

  • Bill Maddox gave $2.00 - one for the great concert he had attended at the Canton Symphony Orchestra and the other dollar so that Michelle Mullaly could talk about the concert;

  • PP Rick Taylor provided $5 to the happy bucks fund because he wanted to extend a "thank you" to his volunteers who helped with the Junior Achievement Done-In-A-Day event at Dueber Elementary - Amanda Tietze, Bruce Hale, Larry Pitts, Shawn Dougherty and Craig Young;

  • Don Peterson was very happy to announce his son came in second place in the Day Ketterer "March Madness" bracket contest, losing by one point to Curt Werren's daughter;

  • finally Michelle Mullaly was very pleased to announce the concert at the Canton Symphony Orchestra was a sold out presentation of Queen music (the rock band, not the monarch) and thanked WHBC and 94.1 for sponsoring and promoting the event.

  • Also, during Happy Bucks, Becky Clark informed the members about a woman in Haiti who, in spite of having only one arm, makes and sells beautiful aprons. This exceptional woman then donates the money to help feed families. She had been forced to quit this endeavor due to failing eyesight, but Becky was very pleased to announce that the team who visited Haiti was able to provide this woman with a pair of eye glasses which had been donated by Canton Rotarian Steve Fettman. This woman can now continue her enterprise.

Sergeant-at-Arms Bob Matthews then came to the podium to provide information for the upcoming Health Screen & Wellness Fair taking place on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Mercy Medical's Mercy Hall Auditorium.  Flyers were still available for members to pass out or post to help get word out to the public.
