MCKINLEY CHARACTER CHAMPIONS FOR JANUARY IS NICK POWELL AND MICAELAH ABDUL-ALI
During our meeting on January 22, 2016, Canton Rotarian Dean Gogolewski introduced the McKinley Character Champion Award Winners for January, Nick Powell and Micaelah Abdul-Ali.

McKinley High School had this to say about Nick Powell:  "Nick Powell is a senior at McKinley Senior High School who has been an excellent student and has been very involved with community service in the City of Canton.  Nick has been a member of Key Club, Young Life, Canton Freewill Baptist Church Food Bank, and working with autistic students at the Natatorium.  In addition, Nick has been a varsity letter recipient in Cross Country, Swimming, and Track and Field.  Nick will major in Biochemistry after high school but has yet to determine where he wants to attend.  Currently, Nick is considering Ohio University, Bowling Green State University, and Ohio Northern University to continue his education."

McKinley Counselor Mrs. Phillips had this to say about Micaelah Abdul-Ali: "There is a scripture in the bible that ends with the words "and a child shall lead them" that always reminds me of Michaelah Morgan-Abdul-Ali.  A child's innocence, transparency, honesty and overall gentleness become clouded when met with the world's struggles, hurts, and hardships.  However, somehow Micaelah has been able to hold on to those "lost" attributes and is an exceptional leader because of those core characteristics.  Whether she is on the field with the band, decision-making with the student governing body, in school amongst her peers, or before her congregation leading praise service she continues to shine and excel.  She is well deserving of this honor and I expect her to do great things in the future."
