During the July 28th Rotary meeting, PDG/PP Dave Ewing introduced the new member, James Boggs, to the Rotary Club of Canton.
James T. Boggs is an attorney who is currently employed by Miller Law Offices, PLLC in Fairmont, West Virginia (a little over three hours from Canton!)
James has been a Rotarian since his induction into the Greensburg, Pennsylvania Club September 4, 2001, exactly one week before 9/11. He served multiple terms on the Board of the Greensburg Club, organized numerous social events, and is a Paul Harris Fellow.
Fresh out of law school in 1987, James opened his own law office in his home town of Huntington, West Virginia and operated it for nearly three years, until Allegheny Energy made him an unsolicited offer to join its Legal Department as in-house counsel with a focus on litigation. For nearly 20 years, he worked as Senior Attorney and Manager of the Major Claims Department of Allegheny Energy. During his 30 year career as an attorney, he has handled a variety of matters before courts and administrative agencies throughout Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
In 2007, when it became clear that Allegheny Energy was a takeover target, James left the company and went to work with a financial services company in downtown Pittsburgh, focusing on estate planning and financial protection strategies. Seven years later, in April 2015, he took his current position with Miller Law.
James received his Bachelor of Arts degree, with honors, in Political Science from Marshall University in 1984 (with minors in Spanish, Psychology, Sociology and of course Music), and he received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the College of Law at West Virginia University in 1987.
James is a huge college football fan and is a long-time Marshall University football season ticket holder. He also loves pro football, and his favorite team is located in Western Pennsylvania.
James has been married to his wife, Susan, an Executive at FirstEnergy, since 1998. Her office is located at the company’s Corporate Headquarters building in downtown Akron (thus their reason for being N.E. Ohio).
James is ACTIVELY seeking employment opportunities close to Canton so he can end his weekly commute to Fairmont, WV. He says that he has done enough “windshield time.
James and Susan live in nearby Green, Ohio with their Bombay cat, Maceo (pronounced MAY-see-o).
