At our weekly meeting on January 20, 2017, President Craig Young welcomed the members and the guests to the meeting. President Craig then called Michelle Mullaly up to fill in for Song Leader Bob Myers. Bob had informed the office he had taken a bad fall at the beginning of the week. Bob stated he is recuperating at home and he was pleased to inform the office he had no broken bones only aches and pains.
 
Rotarian Bruce Hale gave the Invocation.
 
Secretary Suzette Matthews welcomed the following guests to the meeting:  Carl Campbell (guest of Dave Ewing); S. Franklin Arner (guest of Craig Young and Michelle Mullaly); Mark Esber (guest of Ernie Schott); Raquel Raderchak (guest of Dan Matthews).
 
The "Happy Bucks" were provided by the following:
  • Theresa Blocher - in celebration of her daughter, a naval cadet, who was chosen to be one of the 100 cadets marching in the inaugural parade in D.C.;

  • PP Rick Taylor - in celebration of the smooth transition of presidential power in our democracy;

  • Lynn Hamilton - in recognition of speaker Mark Samolczyk and the Stark Foundation's 'Good News Monday' articles in the Rep;

  • Bill Liber - in celebration of the peaceful transfer of power and leadership in the United States.
Tim Shetzer then took to the podium to introduce returning member, Mike Brown. Mike will once again take over the Character Champion program working directly with McKinley Senior High School (*please see article above).
 
Continuing with the introduction of new members, Ernie Schott introduced his new member, Christopher Schoeppner. Chris is the owner of Schoeppner Tile & Construction. (*see story above).
 
Vice President Michelle Mullaly then brought the members up-to-date on the "Unevent" Raffle.  There have been around 100 tickets sold and tickets will still be available to purchase even after the drawing begins (January 27th); anyone buying tickets after that date will be eligible to win in the subsequent weeks.  Tickets are $25.00 and all proceeds benefit the Rotary Club of Canton. (Editor's note: you are also welcome to buy tickets and RE-SELL them of GIFT them to all of your friends, and family!) Please make checks payable to: The Rotary Club of Canton.
 
Speaker Chair Sharon Sirpilla introduced our speaker, Mark Samolczyk.  Mark is President of the Stark Community Foundation.
 
President Craig then stated next week's speaker will be Nate Phinney, Provost from Malone University.  President Craig concluded the meeting by reminding everyone to pick up "Unevent" raffle tickets on their way out.
