The tradition continues!  The Rotary Club of Canton is hosting the 3rd Annual Canton Oktoberfest on Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 4:00 - 9:00pm in Downtown Canton on Market Avenue between 2nd and 3rd Street N.W.
 
The 2017 Oktoberfest will include beer samplings from up to 12 local breweries, grilled brats with fixings, musical entertainment featuring Visinata (led by Johnnie Maier) and Donauschwabische Blaskapelle, a genuine German Oktoberfest band from Cleveland complete with dancing and singing. There will also be a performance by the Canton Ballet performed from 6:30-7:00pm. We have a surprise guest for the official tapping of the Oktoberfest keg!
 
To purchase your tickets at the presale price of $25.00 follow the link above (CANTONOKTOBERFEST.ORG).
 
Beer Steins will be available for purchase price of $60.00. This will include the price of the Stein and one fill of beer. To refill this stein, you may purchase an additional ticket for $20.00.
 
The ticket price includes a souvenir tasting glass and unlimited samples from the following breweries: Scenic Brewing Company, BJ's Brewhouse, Maize Valley Brewery, Lockport Brewery, The Canton Brewing Company, Millersburg Brewing Company, HIHO Brewing, Mucky Duck Brewery, Ohio Brewing Company, Rivertowne Brewing, Royal Docks Brewing Co., McArther's Brew House.
 
The following businesses and Rotarians have stepped up to help this become the Rotary Club of Canton's largest fundraiser which will help fund our many local charitable efforts throughout the year.

LISA AURILIO CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER AT AKRON CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL TO SPEAK ON FRIDAY
Lisa Aurilio is the Chief Operating Officer at Akron Children's Hospital. In her previous position as the Vice President of Patient Services, and Chief Nursing Officer, Lisa Aurilio was responsible for the patient service areas of both Akron Children's hospitals, as well as the off-sites patient care units within adult hospitals. Those areas included the Children’s Home Care Group, emergency services, medical/surgical care units, neonatology units/administration, nursing administration, nursing education and research, pediatric intensive care, psychiatric care unit, burn center, respiratory care, special care nurseries, surgical services, transport services, trauma services, and school health services. 

Before joining Akron Children’s, Aurilio was a senior consultant in the health services division of Cap Gemini Ernst and Young in Cleveland. She also worked for University Hospitals of Cleveland, holding various managerial positions at the University MacDonald Women’s Hospital.

WEEKLY MEETING NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
At our weekly meeting on Friday, September 15, 2017, President Elect Michelle Mullaly welcomed the 69 members and 6 guests to the meeting.
 
Past President Bob Carr provided the Invocation.
 
Vice President Mark Rojek filled in for a traveling Secretary Suzette Matthews. Mark welcomed the following guests to the meeting: Dr. David Utlak, M.D. (speaker); Barbara Utlak, Lisa Cary and Stacie Roth (guests of the speaker); Jim Parkinson (guest of Ryan Parkinson); and Greg Allison (guest of Mark Clendenin).
 
The "Happy Bucks" news was then provided by the following:
  • Mark Clendenin: was pleased to have as a guest at the meeting, Greg Allison, who is the Governor's Liason. He was also pleased to show on the big screen pictures of the Rotary Club of Canton's Exchange Student, Sarah Baldoni.  *Mark and his family are the host family for this young lady from Italy;
  •  
  • Lynn Hamilton: was pleased to recognize Rotarian Frank Fleischer's son who conducted the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra at Blossom Music Center;
  •  
  • Bruce Schorsten: was happy with the Tribe's incredible winning streak!
Past President Craig Young took to the podium to remind the members about the upcoming "3rd Annual Oktoberfest" being held on Thursday, September 21, 2017 in downtown Canton. He stated tickets were available for purchase during the meeting or by going online. PP Craig also said it is going to take a lot of volunteers to make this event successful. Please consider volunteering your time by signing your name on the volunteers sheets which are available at the Oktoberfest table located in the lobby.
 
Vice President Mark Rojek then introduced the speaker for the day, Dr. David Utlak M.D., FACC, who is the former President and Managing Physician of Ohio Heart Care, Inc. a premier cardiology group practice in Canton.
 
President Elect Michelle concluded the meeting with the following announcements:
  • next week's speaker will be Lisa Aurilio from Akron's Children's Hospital;
  •  
  • there will be an Oktoberfest meeting at the conclusion of the Rotary meeting;
  •  
  • don't forget to purchase your Oktoberfest tickets;
  •  
  • volunteers are still needed for the Oktoberfest event on September 21st.
