Brent Rice joined Wooster Rotary in 2008. After serving on the club Board of Directors and as PR Chair for the club, Brent was elected to serve as President of Wooster Rotary for 2016/17. Brent’s first Rotary experience was as a District 6650 Group Study Exchange team member to the southern regions of Campania and Calabria in Italy.
When Brent is not busy with Rotary, he is the Vice President for Revenue Development at Cat’s Meow in Wooster and is General Manager of the company’s Designwear division. Brent started with Cat’s Meow in 1995 – the same year he and his wife Sharon moved to Wooster.
When Brent is not busy with work or with Rotary, he is, of course, busy with his family. Brent and Sharon have two high school-aged boys – Evan and Landon. From coaching soccer to involvement with Wooster High’s Music Boosters, Brent has been involved in much of what his boys’ activities dictate.
Brent earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from Hiram College, and later completed his MBA at the University of Akron. He enjoys still trying to play soccer on ageing knees and is an avid reader. He also looks forward to getting a puppy as soon as his year as Rotary president is complete.
Sign-up sheets are now available for this Saturday's "2nd Annual Oktoberfest" event. We are in need of many volunteers to make this event a success. Below is a list of of positions we need help in:
At our weekly meeting on September 9, 2016, Canton Rotarian and Past President Curt Werren introduced our newest member, Stephanie Werren, to the Rotary Club of Canton. Stephanie's sponsor is Past President Dan Matthews.
Stephanie Werren has been with Leadership Stark County since 2005, first as development director and then as assistant director. She managed fund raising and new programs and assisted with the Signature Program days. She began as director in 2015 and will retain a role in fund raising as well as managing the whole organization.
As assistant director Stephanie was instrumental in the creation of the Government Leadership Academy and the Spotlight for Young Professionals course. She is a Gallup trained facilitator for the StrengthsFinder management model and presents for the Government and Young Professionals courses as well as any custom training modules. Stephanie brings a broad background in sales and community volunteerism to her position. Stephanie is a 2008 recipient of the ystark Twenty under 40 award for volunteerism and was named the Malone University Graduate School Alumna of the Year in 2009. Her current community involvement includes North Canton City Council, Plain Local Schools Foundation, Monticello Homeowners Association Committee Chair, Chamber of Commerce Education Committee and Camp Wakonda and YWCA Committee Chairperson.
A Canton native, Werren holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Malone College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science/international studies from Miami University. Stephanie resides in Canton with her husband, Judge Curt Werren and their 17 year old triplets, Jack, Hannah, and Grace, who attend GlenOak High School.

As Rotarians we take pride in making a difference everywhere we can, as well as being the catalyst for compassionate change. At the start of every meeting, we reaffirm our commitment to this when we state that “the Rotary Club of Canton is the finest Rotary Club in the World". We have an opportunity now to punctuate this statement and set the bar. Let us all consider making a donation, no matter how big or small, to help the people of Louisiana.
The catastrophic flood devastating the State of Louisiana is now the worst natural disaster to strike the United States since Hurricane Sandy. There have been 40,000 homes damaged as a result of the flooding. To repair these homes much work will need to be done, such as removing existing drywall and plywood before mold sets in.
I would like to challenge each and every Rotarian of the Rotary Club of Canton to match my donation of $50.00. Can you imagine just exactly how many residents of Louisiana we could help if each and every one of us made a donation? Picture if you will, what it would be like tomorrow if everything you had was washed away. How would you want the Rotarians of Louisiana to help you?
The Rotary Club of Salem is spearheading this humanitarian project and all checks are to be made payable to the Salem Rotary Foundation. We ask that your contributions be sent to: the Rotary Club of Canton, 203 Cleveland Avenue N.W., Canton, OH 44702. The deadline date to make a contribution will be Friday, September 23, 2016. At that time the Canton Rotary office will forward all contributions to the Salem Rotary Club. Tax receipts will be issued for personal donations. Together we can make a difference.
At our weekly meeting on September 9, 2016, President Craig Young welcomed the members and guests to the meeting. Canton Rotarians celebrating a September birthday were recognized.
Rotarian Chris Burt provided the Invocation.
Secretary Suzette Matthews then welcomed the following guests to the meeting: Rick Baldwin (Rotarian from Jacksonville, NC); Chuck Hoover and Rosemary Hoover (guests of Lynn Hamilton); Dave Crawford (guest of Steve Fettman); Nikole Compher (guest of Drew Pelger); Kevin Heraghty.
The "Happy Bucks" news was then provided by the following:
Bruce Hale - wanted to encourage Rotarians to sign-up for the Oktoberfest on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Bruce also wanted to invite everyone to sign-up for "Operation Save a Life", which is the New Member Project on October 22nd.

Paul would also like to thank Rotarians for the "Heart Walk" that was recently held. He stated Rotarians donated $2,000 of the $5,200 that he raised.
Rick Baldwin (Rotarian from Jacksonville, NC) - was very happy to be in attendance. Rick then presented to President Craig Young a Club banner from Jacksonville, N.C. Breakfast Rotary Club. President Craig then presented Rick with a Rotary Club of Canton banner flag to take back to his home Club.

Rotary will get a little help from the original Fab Four this month when eBay shares a portion of the revenue from a live auction featuring Beatles memorabilia – as well as several other auctions – with Rotary.
Below is the list of upcoming eBay Live Auctions that will benefit Rotary. September includes exciting auctions featuring vintage posters, Chinese art, precious metals and rock star memorabilia. We encourage you to browse the catalog of items available for bid and to register for those auctions that are of interest to you. The more items sold, the more Rotary benefits!
