CHARACTER CHAMPIONS
During our meeting on December 16, 2016, Mike Brown introduced the McKinley Character Champion Award Winners for December, Tyler Thatcher and Faith Milligan.

Tyler Thatcher will graduate with a 3.7 cumulative GPA and will earn an honor's diploma.  He has been an active member of the McKinley football team, Men of Honor, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Tyler was nominated by Mr. Grubbs, the building principal, as Tyler's actions make him stand out from the crowd. His natural leadership abilities shine through, whether he is on the football field, in the classroom, or involved in another extra-curricular activity.  As a Man of Honor, Tyler represents McKinley at various community functions and mentors younger Canton City Schools students. As a team captain on the football team this year, he was recently awarded the Captains Award, and also received the Bill Erlitz Award, which is given to the senior who has put in the most time and effort during both the season and the off season.  For example, he did not miss a single practice since the team began practicing last Spring.  While Tyler has not made a final college choice, he is leaning towards Baldwin Wallace, possibly to major in Broadcasting.

Faith Milligan will graduate with a cumulative GPA of over 4.2 and a class rank of 9th out of 342.  Faith is a very dedicated, compassionate, intelligent, social, and energetic person.  Throughout her high school career, Faith has been involved in Speech & Debate, Volleyball, Track, Student Council, Choir, numerous musicals, National Honor Society, and Canton Scholars.  Faith always has a smile on her face no matter the situation, and she has the ability to spread positive energy into any room she enters. McKinley High School expects great things from her in the future, and they know she will represent McKinley well!

CONTRIBUTE TO THE RYLA GOODY BAGS!
The Rotary office received an email from Barbara Loudon, District 6650 RYLA Conference Coordinator, asking for our Club's assistance with donating items to be used in "Goody Bags", which are provided to students who attend the conference.  At the RYLA conference, which stands for 'ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARDS', High School students from all over District 6650 come together for a weekend of leadership development activities.

At RYLA, these students really enjoy receiving goody bags with giveaways provided by District 6650 Rotary Clubs.  Below is a list of ideas:
  • These bags are for 16-17 year olds.  They like pencils (especially mechanical ones), highlighters, post-it notes, key chains, small toys,  playing cards, Frisbees, fast food coupons, gum, candy bars, etc.

  • Please NO political giveaways.  We will not use them.
  •
  • Please NO CAFFEINE snacks or drinks.  We cannot distribute them for safety reasons.
