On Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 4:00pm - 9 pm, the Rotary Club of Canton will hold our 3rd Annual Oktoberfest. The first two Canton Rotary Oktoberfest celebrations in 2015 and 2016 were very successful, with nearly 500 people in attendance at each. We look forward to an even larger Oktoberfest this year.
The 2017 Oktoberfest will include beer samplings from up to 12 local breweries, grilled brats with fixings, musical entertainment featuring Visinata (led by Johnnie Maier) and Donauschwabische Blaskapelle, a genuine German Oktoberfest band from Cleveland complete with dancing and singing. And we have a surprise guest for the official tapping of the Oktoberfest keg!
This Oktoberfest is The Rotary Club of Canton’s largest fundraiser for our Charitable Fund, which helps fund our many local charitable efforts throughout the year: Summer Food Backpack Program for Canton City School students; RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards); Interact Club; Rotary Scouts; Junior Achievement; the Philomatheon Society; Habitat for Humanity ECO; American Red Cross (Canton); Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; scholarships for Canton City School students; Stark County Public Library; Canton Symphony Orchestra; Canton Calvary Mission; First Tee of Canton; and more.
Sponsorships are available at various levels ranging from $100 to $5,000, and are all listed on this form: LINK . Sponsors will receive recognition in various ways, including on all social media websites, event T-shirts, promotional materials, and more.

Rotary clubs in District 5930 (Texas, USA) are collecting emergency relief funds to help flood victims of Hurricane Harvey, which slammed into southeast Texas over the weekend.
Severe rainfall has caused historic flooding along the Texas coast, including in Houston, the fourth largest city by population in the United States. Deluged towns in the region are in desperate need of aid as thousands of residents were forced to flee their homes. About 6.8 million people have been affected by the hurricane, which made landfall on 25 August.
District 5930 has partnered with the nonprofit McAllen North Rotary Fund to set up an emergency relief fund. To help, please send checks and gift cards to:
Rotary District 5930 McAllen North Rotary Fund 501 W. Nolana Ave. McAllen, Texas, 78504
Federal Tax ID# 27-3855943
If you have questions about how you can help, contact relief@rotary.org.
On Saturday, September 23, 2017, we will once again be in need of at least 10 volunteers for the Harrisburg-Royal Park Project. We will need volunteers to arrive at 8:30 am and stay until 11:30 am. to help install bulletin boards, plantings, seating and so forth during this time frame. This park is part of a $3 million neighborhood renovation and salvation. Canton Rotary is featured as a prime partner in this revitalization and is helping make Canton Rotary's name known as a strong player in making Canton great again!
Please contact the Rotary office at (330) 452-2882 if you are interested in being a volunteer for this very worthwhile endeavor.
(Editor's note: per Chairman PP Craig Young, if you can only come and work an hour or two instead of the whole time, you are welcome to do so. Please just let Craig know, so you can be registered with Habitat.)
The Rotary Club of Canton will once again have a fellowship outing at the Canton Brewing Company on Thursday, September 7th at 6 pm. During this event, your first beverage will be FREE! You will also have the opportunity to listen to Past President Craig Young's band, Bandog.
This is a great opportunity to enjoy fellowship with your fellow Rotarians as well as bring guests as prospective Rotarians.

PP Craig Young then updated the members on the Club's upcoming "Oktoberfest" event being held on Thursday, September 21st. We will have between 12-14 Breweries along with polka bands, an Oktoberfest band and dance group, a perfromance by the Canton Ballet, and a special "celebrity" tapping of the keg. Canton Rotary will be cooking up brats and fixings, and we are poised to make this an event that will establish our brand and ownership of Oktoberfest in Canton for years to come. We are going to need many volunteers for this event, so look for the sign-up sheets at every Friday meeting. Also, don't forget this event replaces the Pancake Day event, and we ask that each Rotarian consider purchasing a 4-pack of tickets for $100.00 and using them to come and enjoy this event and bring family, friends, and, even better, someone you would like to introduce to Rotary.
PP Craig also relayed the upcoming Fellowship outing taking place on Thursday, September 7th at 6:00 pm at the Canton Brewing Company. During this Rotary Social Night you will receive your first beverage free as well as be entertained by the band "Bandog". The band will play from 6-9 pm.

He thanked everyone for their help and participation in this event and stated the Committee looks forward to continuing the fun and success at next year's outing.
President Elect Michelle Mullaly then asked everyone to take a moment to fill out the "New Venue/Food/Service" Survey which was provided to each member at their seat. The Executive Board is interested in getting feedback from Rotarians on the new meeting site. Thank you to everyone for filling out this survey. (*Editor's note: per Michelle Mullaly who tabulated the results --Very positive feedback was given on the caterer, TJK Concessions, owner John Kalogeras, and the wait staff, as well as the Alex Krassas Event Center facility).
