GENERAL CHAIR GUY RUDA AND GENERAL VICE-CHAIR DOUG FROELICH WILL SPEAK FRIDAY

General Chairman Guy Ruda                          General Vice Chairman Doug Froelich

Canton, Ohio - The Pro Football Hall of Fame and Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce have named two long-time community volunteers to the top leadership positions for the 2017 and 2018 festivities that will celebrate the annual enshrinement of new classes into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Guy Ruda will serve as General Chairman, with support and assistance from Doug Froelich, General Vice Chairman.

Ruda and Froelich will lead a combined corps of volunteers to help provide a world-class experience to the hundreds of thousands of fans who will descend upon Canton for the 2017 Enshrinement Festival, that includes Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls.

Ruda, a 33-year volunteer, is an effective mentor, and provides leadership to his volunteer team by adhering to a favorite motto, "People never improve unless they look to some standard or example higher and better than themselves." Ruda's service includes having time as the General Chairman of the Enshrinement Festival, Enshrinement Committee, and chairperson of Enshrinement and NFL Experience committees. Ruda and his wife Gail are the proud parents of David and Danielle.

Froelich graduated from North Canton Hoover High School, Kent State University, and Ashland University. He is a teacher, Language Arts Department chairman, National Honor Society adviser and senior class adviser at Green High School, and also serves on the Green Local School District Leadership Team.

A 26-year Enshrinement Festival volunteer, Froelich has served on the Hall of Fame Hospitality and Enshrinement Committees and the 50th Anniversary Committee, and has chaired the Balloon Classic Committee. This will also be his second stint as chairman of the Security and Logistics Committee, a tenure which concludes after this year's festivities. Froelich's extensive volunteer efforts have been guided by his definition of volunteerism, "Giving of your time, talents, and resources without expectation of reward."

Ruda and Froelich will work closely with the staffs at the Hall of Fame and Chamber of Commerce to provide training and resources to enhance an already solid foundation of dedicated community volunteers that will be energized and ready to provide all of the support necessary to successfully host other large events, such as the NFL Draft and Centennial Celebration, that could come to Johnson Controls Hall of Fame Village.

The annual Enshrinement Festival is a true celebration of excellence, having expanded significantly over the years, and now draws nearly 700,000 people to nearly 20 events with an economic impact of over $32 million for the Canton/Stark County area and nearly $56 million for the State of Ohio. In addition, millions of people experience aspects of the Enshrinement Festival and Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls events that are nationally televised.

More than 120 Gold Jackets (living Hall of Famers) are expected to return to Canton this summer to participate in the festivities that surround the Enshrinement of the Class of 2017 - Morten Andersen, Terrell Davis, Kenny Easley, Jerry Jones, Jason Taylor, LaDainian Tomlinson and Kurt Warner. Nowhere else are fans able to see and interact with as many Hall of Famers in one place at one time as in Canton during the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls.

PASSING OF LONGTIME HONORARY CANTON ROTARIAN RALPH REGULA
Ralph S. RegulaRalph S. Regula, 92, of Navarre died at his residence on Wednesday evening, July 19, 2017.

He was born December 3, 1924 at Beach City to the late Oscar and Orpha (Walters) Regula and was a life resident of Stark County.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Mary (Rogusky) Regula; daughter, Martha Regula; sons, David O. (Jacqueline) Regula, and Richard S. (Sherry) Regula; grandchildren, Thomas, Garrett, Olivia, and Marissa. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John D. Regula.

The honorable Ralph Regula was a U.S. Congressman, an Ohio State Representative, a State Senator, a State School Board Member, a lawyer, a teacher, a principal, a historian and a farmer. His vision, perseverance and leadership over 40+ years insured the preservation and development of natural, historical and recreational resources throughout the state of Ohio and the country as well.

His devotion as a public servant was his greatest legacy and the people whose lives he touched in so many ways will forever keep that legacy alive.

His family requests that in this time of mourning for a very public person that they be allowed a private time to grieve for a husband, father, grandfather, and uncle.

A celebration of his life will be planned at some time in the future. We ask that any memorials be contributed to St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Massillon or the Ralph and Mary Regula Center for Public Service at Mount Union College so that his legacy of being a public servant can be passed on to future generations.

On Friday, August 18, 2017, the Rotary Club of Canton will host its annual golf outing at The Sanctuary Golf Club located at 2017 Applegrove Street N.W., North Canton.  Each year the outing brings more than 75 golfers together from many local Rotary Clubs to participate in friendly competition, leaving only one Rotary Club with bragging rights for the next year.  This is a great day to bring guests or prospective members to see what Rotary is all about and meet some of the great people that are involved with Rotary.

As in the past, the golf outing will take the place of our regularly scheduled Friday meeting.  This means all Canton Rotarians are welcome to come for lunch, even if they are not planning to golf.  The cost for your lunch will be $15.00. Lunch will be served at noon with a shot gun start at 1:00 pm.

After lunch, those golfing will join their foursomes and participate in a scramble-format golf tournament.  Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in the scramble and for the longest drive, closest to the hole, and longest putt.

There will also be a putting contest, with the winner taking a BMW home for the weekend, courtesy of Cain BMW.
