CHAD MINOR, ASSOCIATE PASTOR FOR RISING HOPE MINISTRY, WILL BE SPEAKER FOR THIS FRIDAY
Chad Minor (BA Communications & Business, University of Akron ’04; MA Theology, Malone University ’15) has lived most of his life in Canton, OH. As an athlete (like most of his family), Chad played basketball in high school, before moving on to play at the University of Akron (varsity ’96-98). He remained in Canton to raise a family, eventually completing a graduate program at Malone University. His long-term connection with the Canton-Akron area led him to consider how he and his wife Jamie might live more intentionally as a part of the community of Canton. As a result, he and Jamie started Rising Hope Ministries, a 501(c)(3) organization with the purpose of restoring hope to Canton by serving as a catalyst for positive change. Chad seeks to ignite this hope in others by encouraging unity, dreaming big, living intentionally, investing in others, and reminding people of their intrinsic value as human beings.

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL MAJOR DONOR GIFT RECOGNITION PRESENTED TO PDG/PP ROBERT AND JANICE PATTISON
At the May 20, 2016 meeting, PDG/PP David Ewing presented the Rotary International Major Donor Gift Recognition Award to PDG/PP Robert Pattison and his wife, Janice Pattison.

The Rotary Foundation recognizes those individuals or couples whose combined personal giving has reached US $10,000, regardless of the gift designation.  Major Donors may elect to receive a crystal recognition piece and pin(s) commemorating the gift at each new recognition level.

PDG/PP Dave Ewing had this to say about the couple:

"Today we honor our new Rotary Foundation Major Donor, Bob & Jan Pattison.  Bob was Past President of our club in 1995-96 and Past District Governor in 2008-09.  Bob is a graduate of the University of Nebraska, where he met his lovely wife Jan.  Bob graduated with a degree in Chemistry and Math.  Jan is from Minerva, Ohio, and persuaded Bob to relocate to her home state of Ohio. Bob then went on to pursue his Masters from Kent State University in Public Administration.

Bob worked for the City of Canton Health Department from 1966-2008.  He is the longest serving Health Commissioner, with 28 of his 42 years in service in the commissioner's role.

Bob and Jan are celebrating 50 years of marriage.  They have three children, 2 boys and 1 girl.  They also have 4 grandchildren.  The couple are long time members of Trinity Baptist Church in North Canton."

Club Secretary Michelle Mullaly welcomed the following guest to the meeting: Jan Pattison (wife and guest of Bob Pattison).

The "Happy Bucks" news was then provided by the following Rotarians:
  • PP Virginia Neutzling - was happy because Saturday was National Armed Forces Day.  She thanked the members of Rotary who served in the armed forces and asked each to stand to be recognized.

  •
  • Tena Wilson - was happy to see that Max Barton is now a member of Rotary and for the programs that the Canton Museum of Art does at the library. She had to borrow $5 from Bruce Hale to announce her "Happy Buck", but only on Bruce's condition that she was supposed to mention "Kozmos Grille" (editor's note: since I was out of town and not able to attend this meeting, I can NOT be blamed for this blatant commercialism! But I DO appreciate it! Thanks Bruce and Tena!).
  •
  • Bruce Hale - he was happy to announce a "New Member Project" will take place in September.  It will be a "walk" that everyone can join and participate in.
  •
  • President Elect Craig Young - was pleased to announce his band, "Bandog", was playing live in Massillon last weekend.
  •
  • President Paul White - was happy that the sun had come out!

Dave then awarded PDG/PP Bob Pattison and his wife, Jan, with the Rotary International Major Donor Gift (*please see story above).
