At the meeting on February 9, 2018, President Amanda Tietze welcomed the 59 members and 2 guests to the meeting. President Amanda then asked everyone to keep Rotarian John Schumacher's family in their thoughts and prayers. John passed away on February 2nd. She also reminded everyone to please sign the sympathy card for John's wife, Mary and family.
 
Rotarian Ashleigh Abrigg gave the Invocation.
 
Rotarian Drew Pelger filled in for Secretary Suzette Matthews. Drew welcomed the following guest to the meeting: PDG Sieglinde Warren.
 
The "Happy News" was then provided by the following:
  • Ernie Schott - Rotarian Bruce Schorsten was in the Canton Repository with his Rotary name badge on;
  •  
  • Paul Feaser - wanted to congratulate Kitty Burgett, McKinley Speech Coach, and her Speech and Debate Team on having some of the students qualify for State;
  •  
  • Bill Liber - was saddened when The Ohio State University mens basketball team beat, Purdue;
  •  
  • Bob Winther - very proud his grandson became an Eagle Scout; his grandson was also inducted into the National Honor Society;
  •  
  • Joe Niamtu - called from Florida to say he was very proud of his son, Joe, who was featured on the Lifetime TV Channel performing surgery!
President Amanda then provided a reminder announcement regarding the search for this year's "Rotarian of the Year". She stated there were nomination forms on each table and each Rotarian is entitled to vote once. The deadline to submit your nomination is Friday, March 2nd. The form can also be found on the Canton Rotary webpage.
 
Rotarian Shawn Dougherty reminded everyone about the upcoming Fellowship Outing to the Canton Charge on February 21st. He stated the deadline is Wednesday, February 14th.
 
Past District Governor Sieglinde Warren (Canfield Rotary) took to the podium to recognize our very own Club Administrator, Lauri Coy, for her support and substantial hard work during the 2016-2-17 District Conference. PDG Sieglinde stated she could not have done it without the help of Lauri and two other individuals from the District level. PDG Sieglinde presented Lauri with a Paul Harris Fellow +1 pin to thank her. Lauri received a standing ovation from everyone at the meeting.
 
February Speaker Chair Theresa Blocher introduced the speaker for the day, Marion Coblentz, President of the Hartville Marketplace.
