OFFSITE: COME SEE YOUR CLUB IN ACTION! CANTON ROTARY/HABITAT POCKET PARK!

This Friday September 23, 2022, we will hold are regular meeting at the Canton Rotary/Habitat Pocket Park at Allen Ave. and Johns Ct. SE.

Box lunches will be provided, along with beverages. Habitat will bring folding chairs for all of us to use. Habitat will also give us an update on what they've been up to.

Parking is available on the streets near the park.

Hope to see you there!

(We will be attempting to provide the Zoom option for this meeting. However, since there will be no wi-fi access for us to use, we will have to rely on a data connection with one of our phones. Fingers crossed that it will work. Please use the usual link as shown in the separate article.)

Background: Past President Craig Young started, or at least enhanced, our partnership with Habitat for Humanity of East Central Ohio during his term. Besides a financial contribution to their work, the Club also agreed to provide some manual labor to help them build their 'pocket park' (basically a smaller park in a central location in the neighborhood) as part of their "Renewal Project" in the Harris Royal neighborhood in Canton's Northeast end. (Click here for info: https://www.habitateco.org/habitat-for-humanity-continues-ne-canton-renewal-with-neighborhood-enhancement/

The new pocket park is part of their Renewal Project: Southeast, including Lathrop, Hartford and Belden neighborhoods.

Canton Rotarians volunteered to help finish that Northeast pocket park, much as we hope to do this Friday, on July 29, 2017. Photos of that effort can be seen here: https://cantonrotary.org/photoalbums/habitat-for-humanity-2017-pocket-park

NEW INFO! UKRAINIAN DINNER/FUNDRAISER! NEW DATE, LOCATION & TIME!

District Governor (and Canton Rotarian) Michelle Charles has set a goal for District 6650 to raise $100,000 for the Rotary International Disaster Relief Fund, specifically to benefit the Ukraine relief efforts.

Therefore, we are all invited to "A Night for Ukraine", a special fundraising event on SUNDAY NOVEMBER 6, 2022!  (Please note Browns fans, if there are any of us left: it is a bye week for CLE).

From Project Chair PDG Scott Schulick:

"Late last week, we were informed that the venue where we were to have the Ukraine Relief Event at St. Nikolas Hall in North Canton suffered extensive damage from a fire and will not be able to host our event on Saturday evening, November 5.

After several attempts to find another venue, we have been forced to move the event to Sunday, November 6, 2022 from 3-7pm at the St. George Serbian Center, 4667 Applegrove St. NW, North Canton, OH  44720.  We are sorry for any inconvenience.  The good news is that most of our entertainment, our caterer, and our special guest, Past RI President Barry Rassin, are still able to attend!

"We have been in contact with PDG Mykola Stebljanko in Odessa, Ukraine, and we are very pleased to learn how our efforts and proceeds will benefit aid on the ground and administered by local Rotarians."

Cost is $60 per person and includes an authentic Ukrainian ethnic menu, performances from local Ukrainian musicians and dancers, and a special appearance by Past RI President Barry Rassin.

Your Canton Rotary Board of Trustees has agreed to budget a $2500 donation to the District's Ukraine fundraising efforts from our Charitable Fund.

However, if you, your business or someone you know would like to also contribute to this cause, you may do so by buying tickets, purchasing a sponsorship, or donating an auction item worth $500 or more for the auction for the Night for Ukraine Dinner!

Information is provided at this link: http://rotarydistrict6650.org/. All tickets purchased for this dinner will go toward the cost of the function itself, leaving all sponsorships and auction proceeds to go directly to the Ukraine relief effort!

WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A LARGE CONTINGENT OF CANTON ROTARIANS AT THIS DINNER TO SUPPORT BOTH UKRIANE AND OUR OWN DISTRICT GOVERNOR MICHELLE! Why not make it a Canton Rotary SOCIAL EVENT?
WHAT'D I MISS LAST WEEK?
At our weekly meeting last Friday September 16, 2022, President Rick welcomed 29 Rotarians and two guests: Tom Schmidt, guest of Sue Marzano, and our speaker Stu Nicholson, Executive Director of All Aboard Ohio, a passenger rail advocacy group. Stu gave a very convincing presentation on what Ohio is lacking in rail services and how we are missing the boat (or train?), especially considering the location of the new Intel plant and other manufacturing and businesses which might be coming to Ohio. We have to consider how we will move the employees these folks hire where they need to go.

Sue Marzano, filling in for Secretary Paula, introduced our guests, gave a quick rundown on community events, then asked for Happy Bucks:

- Mark Clendenin
- Lynn Hamilton
- Mark Rojek
- Denny Fulmer
- PDG Bob Pattison
