 PLEASE READ...IMPORTANT INFORMATION --As of July 10, 2015, new changes took place at our Friday meeting. The Rotary office has had to adjust to some new requirements on the services provided by ClubRunner, which hosts our website, and we have had to implement these changes for our regular Friday meetings.
Each member will now need to have their badge SCANNED to show they were present at that particular meeting and to receive credit for their attendance. There are new barcodes which have been attached to each badge and this information will go directly into the ClubRunner system. ***There will no longer be an attendance table watching you enter the meeting (even if you are late), so it is your responsibility to stop by the badge table and have your badge scanned by Dale Holwick.
Secondly, there will NO LONGER BE CASH OR CHECKS ACCEPTED at the meetings to pay for lunches. We will be using a credit card/debit card scanner that will accept all major credit cards as well as debit cards to pay for lunches.
We appreciate everyone's cooperation and understanding during this new transition. We understand this may be an inconvenience to some, but please understand that these are changes that our Rotary office is required to follow. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

 Thursday Sept. 17, will be the inaugural Canton Rotary Oktoberfest. Our goals are to make this event one that elevates the name and image of Canton Rotary in our community, one that becomes our signature fundraiser for our club’s charitable fund, and one that is a fun event with lots of fellowship via participation from Canton Rotarians. It will also be an event that will increase awareness of Canton Rotary and our work in the community, plus be an excellent vehicle for membership recruitment.
We need the support of all Canton Rotarians in this new event to make it successful. There are many ways to support this event: volunteering to work the day of the event, event sponsorship, selling tickets for the event, and more. Please note – Rotarians will NOT be asked to buy the tickets, but rather to promote the ticket sales at their business and to their customers, associates, and friends.
Event information:
Thursday Sept. 17 from 4:30 to 8:30
Location – Market St N. between 3rd and Tuscarawas
Tickets - $30 in advance, $40 at gate
What is the Canton Rotary Oktoberfest? Our Oktoberfest is centered on beer sampling from 6 or more local breweries, as well as 2 wine distributors. The ticket includes 6 beer or wine samples. We will have local downtown restaurants as our food vendors, and we will also have entertainment including a German style “Oktoberfest” band.
We are making the sponsorship opportunities available to Canton Rotarians first. The sponsorship levels and benefits are listed and can be found by following this LINK. You can use this form (LINK) to indicate your sponsorship commitment, and Canton Rotary will bill you in August for your commitment.

 Get ready for a great day of golf and fun at our annual Stark County Rotary Golf Invitational. Sign up now for the Four-Person Scramble on Friday, August 21st at Tam O'Shanter Golf Course.
Sign-up sheets are available at Friday meetings or you may access this LINK to fill out your foursome. Please return your sign-up sheet to Golf Chairperson, Nick Perini, or to the Rotary office.
We will be featuring Old Carolina Barbecue for lunch this year! Lunch begins at 12 noon, modified shotgun starts at 1:00 p.m.
The cost is $50.00 per person for Rotarians and guests. Cost includes lunch, 18 holes with a cart, and beer and beverages on the course.
NEW THIS YEAR will be a putting contest and the winner will receive the use of a BMW for a weekend compliments of Cain BMW!

The Rotary office received a "Thank You" letter from Heather Vignos on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Heather writes:
"Dear Canton Rotarians: On behalf of my family and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, I would like to thank you for your generosity in helping to make the Annual Canton Great Strides for Cystic Fibrosis a success by sponsoring the event.
My late father-in-law, Tom Vignos (we miss him dearly), one of the best men I have ever known, held your organization in very high regard. I know it is because of your selflessness, kindness and the willingness to help others in need and for that I cannot fully express my gratitude in this letter.
Great Strides is the largest national fundraising event for the CF Foundation. With your help, this year the Canton Great Strides brought in over $65,000 which will be used by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to invest in research to find better treatments and one day a cure for Cystic Fibrosis, fund CF Care Centers and patient education for this genetic life threatening disease which impacts two of my children, Jack and Allie."

Dear Fellow Rotarians - I would like to thank each and every Rotarian for contributing to Rotary every year so that projects like the Philomatheon Home for the Blind's annual picnic can be accomplished. Special "thank you" goes out to Rotarians Dave Roberts, Virginia Neutzling, Frank Fleischer, Jack and Alice Barkan and Zak Fettman for setting up, cooking, serving and most importantly, cleaning up.
Ernie Schott not only helped with the Philomatheon Home's fund raiser this year at Taggart's but was very kind for providing the delicious frozen treat for desert for the picnic.
The picnic has grown every year. This year we had more than sixty members attend. When we all work together, we "light the way" for our community. Thank you."

.png) The Rotary office received a "Thank You" letter dated July 3, 2015, from David Miller, President of the Philomatheon Society of the Blind. David wrote:
"Dear Mr. Fettman, On behalf of the Philomatheon Society of the Blind, I would like to thank you and your committee for the Philomatheon Society of the Canton Rotary Club for the effort put forth on behalf of the Society at our picnic on Saturday last. It is an event looked forward to with great anticipation by the entire Society and could not be pulled off without your help, as well as the other's who contributed.
This year was an especially good year. The turnout was more than in recent years and everyone enjoyed themselves. The food, as always was fantastic and the surprise dessert put the people over the top.
The Society values the connection and the help received from the Rotary and could not have some of our events without Rotary help.
Thank you once again for all of the effort, great food and help that was given to make the picnic a great success. Please let us know if the Society can assist the Rotary in any way."

 At our weekly meeting on July 10, 2015, President Paul White asked the members to keep in their thoughts Canton Rotarians Michelle Mullaly and John Schumacher, who are recovering at their homes from surgery, and Bill Sparks and CC Childs, who are having medical issues.
President Paul then asked all members celebrating a July birthday to stand and be recognized. Paul then thanked June speaker chair Bruce Hale for the outstanding speakers he had acquired for that month. He then gave an update on the Rotary Club of Canton's First Annual "Oktoberfest" being held on September 17, 2015 (see story for more details).
Vice President Amanda Tietze welcomed the following guests to our meeting: Tom Grace, Gayle Bicik, Joe Bicik, Zak Fettman, Susan White, Tony Pierce, Kelly Bah and Jerry Frisch.
The following Board members and Trustees will receive a makeup for attending the Board meeting held on July 6, 2015: President Paul White, President Elect Craig Young, Secretary Michelle Mullaly, Sergeant at Arms Robert Matthews. Trustees were Paul Feaser, Dean Wallace, Ryan Parkinson, Steve Fettman and Rebecca Marchino.
The following Rotarians will receive a makeup for participating in the Philomatheon Picnic: Steve Fettman, Frank Fleischer, Jack Barkan, Dave Roberts and Virginia Neutzling.
