 Rabbi Jon Adland is thrilled to be the rabbi of Temple Israel. He comes to this position after serving congregations in Indianapolis, IN and Lexington, KY. Rabbi Adland was born in Washington, DC, and grew up in Chevy Chase, MD. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1976 with a BA in Psychology and Jewish Studies. During college he spent his junior year, 1974-75, on the One Year Program of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Following his graduation, Rabbi Adland returned to Israel to begin his studies in rabbinical school at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. From 1977-1982, Rabbi Adland attended the Cincinnati campus of HUC-JIR receiving his M.A.H.L. in 1981 and ordination in 1982.
In 1986, after serving as an assistant rabbi at Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, Rabbi Adland moved to Lexington, KY, where he served Temple Adath Israel for 17 years. During his tenure in Lexington, Rabbi Adland was very involved in the general community including: serving on the board United Way; serving on the board and as president of Lexington Planned Parenthood; co-founder of the Interfaith Alliance of the Bluegrass; creating the clergy campaign for the homeless; and for 15 years served as an adjunct professor at Lexington Theological Seminary. During his years at Temple Adath Israel, the congregation grew and created more and varied programs.
In 2003, Rabbi Adland returned to Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation as senior rabbi. During his tenure at IHC he was very involved in the Indianapolis community. He was chair of the Race and Cultural Relations Leadership Network, served on the boards of Planned Parenthood (where he chaired the Advocacy Committee), served with Gleaners Food Bank, and served on the executive committee of Drug Free Marion County. He was a founding member of the Interfaith Hunger Initiative. Finally, he maintained an active involvement with the United Way.
During his entire career, Rabbi Adland has served on the faculty of Goldman Union Camp Institute for more than 25 years, including 9 years as dean of kallah alef. He has also been very involved with Reform Jewish Outreach and working with interfaith couples. In the 1990’s, Rabbi Adland chaired the Conversion Committee of the CCAR.
Rabbi Adland married his wife Sandy in 1981. Her support in their life’s journey is an important part of his success. They are the proud parents of Joshua, 26, who lives and works in New York City and Rachel 22, who is living in Pittsburgh and working for American Eagle Outfitters. Along with his family, Rabbi Adland’s passions are fishing and woodworking.

 Past President Mike Gregorek announces we are still looking for members to sign-up for the Canton Rotary's annual round of bell-ringing for the Salvation Army. We will be manning the kettles at Fisher Foods located on 44th Street and Fishers on Fulton Road on Saturday, December 6th. Each time slot will consist of TWO Rotarians manning the kettles for a TWO HOUR shift. The following time slots are still available:

The Rotary Club of Canton will participate in Canton's "Light-up Downtown" event on Thursday, December 4, 2014 from 6-8 pm. We will open the Rotary office up to the public, where we will have card stock, stickers, scissors, markers and other items to make a Holiday card for our military servicemen and -women who will not be home for the Holidays. Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided.
Any Canton Rotarian wanting to donate some of their time to this new and worthwhile endeavor is asked to contact the Rotary office at (330) 452-2882. Any time you can give would be greatly appreciated!

To kick off the Holiday season in December and to help the Charitable Fund, President Elect Paul White would like to put together a "Holiday Gift Basket" and auction it off during our meeting on December 19, 2014. This Holiday gift basket would be full of Ohio Lottery tickets and gift cards to area restaurants. The proceeds from this gift basket will also benefit the Charitable Fund account.
We are asking members to begin bringing in Lottery tickets and/or gift certificates to area restaurants to fill this basket! This will be a very nice Holiday gift for either yourself or family members!! Any questions, please feel free to contact the Rotary office at (330) 452-2882.

 Thank you to those members who brought in a food donation during the November 7th and November 14th meetings. All nonperishable food was donated to the "Thanksgiving Baskets Downtown".

 At our weekly meeting on November 14, 2014, President Tom Clevenger performed the vote for the incoming 2015-2016 Board of Trustees. The motion for the incoming Board members and Trustees was approved. The following members will begin their term on July 1, 2015: President - Paul White; President Elect - Craig Young; Vice President - Amanda Tietze; Treasurer - Dave Schrade; Secretary - Michelle Mullaly; Sergeant-at-Arms - Bob Matthews; Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms - Chris Burt; new Trustees will be: Steve Fettman, Kurt Goodenberger, Rebecca Marchino and Bruce Schorsten.
President Tom then reminded the members about "First Thursdays" beginning in December. A reminder card was presented to every Rotarian attending Friday's meeting.
A reminder about the November 23rd Evening of Fellowship with the Canton Symphony Orchestra was announced. Rotarian Michelle Mullaly will do a presentation during next Friday's meeting to give a "sneak peak" of this amazing Orchestra performance.
President Tom then presented Sponsor pins to the following Rotarians who brought in a new member(s). They are: Dave Schrade (new member Richard Eicheldinger) and Pete Taflan (new member Teresa Dixon).
President Elect Paul White brought the members up to date on the Charitable Fund Drive. Paul's goal is to reach $12,000.00 and to date we are at $8,355.00. If you have not yet made a donation it is not too late to do so. You may send a check into the Rotary office made payable to the Canton Rotary Charitable Fund.
PP Mike Gregorek then announced a GREAT NEED for Salvation Army Bell ringing volunteers. The dates are November 22nd and December 6th. **Please see the story in this edition of the Rotogram for the time slots and venue locations which still need volunteers!!
Club Secretary Amanda Tietze welcomed the following guests to our meeting: Jeff Halm and Ben Seeley.
The "Happy Bucks" news was then provided by the following Rotarians: PDG/PP Dave Ewing informed the members about the Foundation match. The Canton Rotary Club will match your monetary donation to Rotary International UP TO $500.00 (example...if you issue a check to RI in the amount of $500.00 the Club will match this donation and you will then be recognized with a Paul Harris Fellow). It takes a $1,000.00 accumulative donation to be a recipient of a PHF so don't miss out on this wonderful opportunity; Greg Triner informed the members that he and his sister-in-law have decided to sell the family business known as Tim's Tavern. He said that even though he has sold the business we are not to worry, we will still be enjoying Tim's fish the first meeting of every month like we always have!; Jim Lockshin informed the members of his wife's operations; and Denny Fulmer was happy the Brown's were in 1st place.
The following Rotarians received a make-up for their participation in bringing five or more food items for the food drive: Dan Matthews, Suzette Matthews, Greg Triner, Jan Baker, CC Childs, Ray Pelanda, Kitty Pelanda, Mike Gregorek, Joe Niamtu, Dave Hursh, Ernie Schott, Jon Adland, Bob Carr, Drew Pelger, Dan Fuline, Terri Barry, John Schumacher and Teresa Dixon.
The following Rotarians attended the District Foundation Celebration Event on November 15th and will receive a make-up: President Tom Clevenger, Treasurer Dave Schrade, PDG/PP Bob Pattison, PDG/PP Dave Ewing, PP Mike Gregorek, PP Dan Matthews, Suzette Matthews, PP Bob Carr, Bruce Hale, PP Rick Sherer, PP Karen Brenneman, Jim Blake, PP Denny Fulmer and PP Fritz Spring.
