Just a reminder to all Board members and Trustees, there will be a brief meeting with District Governor Joe Belinsky following THIS FRIDAY'S regular Rotary meeting.

 

The meeting will be held at Meyer's Lake Ballroom in the CALYPSO ROOM!!

 

 

Joe joined the Bolivar Zoar Ohio Towpath Rotary Club in 2007, and became President of the Club in 2011-2012. He'll serve as District Governor in 2015-16.

He currently serves on several Committees in the District, and has facilitated several events on behalf of the Learning Committee. This includes this past year's PrePETS for the District, and All Ohio PETS for the State of Ohio.

In addition, he has served on several community projects, on behalf of the Club. Included are several 'work days' on behalf of the Club, such as rebuilding the Erie Canal Towpath, 5k events, cleanups, fix-ups, and plantings.

Joe and Joan were privileged to attend the International Convention in Sydney Australia, where they got to interact with many Global Rotarians, and take home a lot of great ideas for projects for our District.

He serves on several Boards, and has been President of 3 civic associations. Joe has also volunteered for many charity and community events, including serving yearly as a Room Captain for the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction dinner, and helped build homes for Habitat For Humanity, and is a proud Blood Donor.

Joe earned his BA from La Salle University, MBA from Kent State University, and a Certified Business Advisor certificate from the University of Toledo. He currently serves as Certified Business Advisor for the Small Business Development Center at Kent State University at Tuscarawas. In this role, he helps budding entrepreneurs develop their business plans and startups, and experienced small businesses to grow and provide employment in their areas.

In previous lives, Joe had a long career in entrepreneurship, including working with over 2,500  small businesses globally for Goodyear and Sun Oil Co., as well as his own companies.

On the family front, wife Joan has served as his rock through many moves for business, and being his helpmate for Rotary activities. Together they enjoy being with their kids and grandkids, and traveling, especially throughout Beautiful Ohio.

At our weekly meeting on August 7, 2015, President Elect Craig Young (sponsor) introduced our newest member, Anthony Pierce, to the Rotary Club of Canton.

 

Anthony was raised by a mother who is an Artist and entrepreneur father. He grew up in Canton city until he was 15 then moved to Perry Township with his family and went to Perry High where he scored 4 touch downs against the McKinley Bulldogs!!!! He then graduated in 2005.

He has worked in a few different industries throughout high school and early on. His father, who is a Past President of Plain Township Rotary, purchased Hughes Kitchens and Bath in 2004 and Anthony started in 2007. Anthony continued to work full time while pursuing and graduating with Bachelors in Business Administration at Kent State University in 2011.

He has two Sisters. The older sister is a Sergeant First Class in the Army. She is an 11 year active duty soldier and a veteran of both Afghanistan and Iraq wars with 4 tours of duty.

His younger sister a youth Minister in West Virginia and is a lead baker at a local bakery.

Currently he works at Hughes Kitchens and Bath and has personally managed over 2500 remodeling projects of all types.

Tony currently lives in North Canton and owns rental property in North Canton and recently took on investment property in Canton.  
In 2012 he also ran and completed a full marathon at Cantons first Marathon.

Thursday Sept. 17, will be the inaugural Canton Rotary Oktoberfest. Our goals are to make this event one that elevates the name and image of Canton Rotary in our community, one that becomes our signature fundraiser for our club’s charitable fund, and one that is a fun event with lots of fellowship via participation from Canton Rotarians. It will also be an event that will increase awareness of Canton Rotary and our work in the community, plus be an excellent vehicle for membership recruitment.

 

Tickets will be available for purchase beginning with the August 28th meeting.  They are also available online at cantonrotary.org.

What is the Canton Rotary Oktoberfest? Our Oktoberfest will feature beer from 8 local breweries, as well as 2 wine distributors. The ticket includes 10 beer or wine samples. We will have local downtown restaurants as our food vendors, and we will also have entertainment including a German style “Oktoberfest” band.

During our regular Friday meetings we will be having a sign-up sheet available for our new upcoming fundraiser "Oktoberfest".  This event will take place on Thursday, September 17, 2015, from 4:30-8:30 p.m. in Downtown Canton and we will need approximately 60 volunteers to make this event succeed!  Please consider asking your family and friends to volunteer with you!

At our weekly meeting on August 7, 2015, President Elect Craig Young wished all the members with August birthday a very happy birthday. He thanked Rotarian Ward Scott for providing ice cream for all the members to celebrate Ward's birthday.  President Elect Craig then introduced our newest member, Anthony Pierce (Please see story above).  Craig then thanked Rotarian Denise Burton for her outstanding speakers she provided in the month of July.

 

Club Secretary Michelle Mullaly brought members up to date on the Oktoberfest and reminded everyone there are sign-up sheets available to work the event on September 17th.  She then welcomed the following guests to our meeting:  Joe Niamtu Jr., Sue Feaser, Gerri Pierce, Mike Pierce, Dan McMasters, Lenny Cooper, Cheryl Manko, Larry Dick, Leo Dick, Michael Dougan and Ben Dobrowolski.

 

The "Happy Bucks" news was provided the following Rotarians: Rotarian Mike Pierce (Plain) was happy his son, Tony, was becoming a Rotarian today; Rotarian Dan McMasters (Massillon) was happy that the Canton and Massillon Clubs would be having a joint meeting on August 28th.  Dan also stated he was attending today's meeting to support the speaker, Canton Rotarian Rick Eicheldinger.
