Sweet Treat Raffle!
Friday we will hold our popular "Sweet Treat Raffle” where you will have the opportunity to win a variety of donated dessert items: for example, cookies, breads, pies, and cakes, which will make for a "sweet" fundraiser!
Proceeds now benefiting relief efforts for the victims of last weekend's tornadoes!
Each Rotarian is asked to bring their favorite culinary/holiday sweet treat that day to be raffled off at the meeting. It can be store-bought or homemade so don’t let a lack of talent in the kitchen stop you from participating!
When you arrive, you will be able to purchase raffle tickets (2 for $1.00 or 12 for $5.00) and during lunch you will be able to put your tickets in the boxes for the items you would like to win. The more you buy the better your odds are to take home a delicious treat for your holiday gathering!

played on the Gibbs-Pryor organ in the Christ Church Sanctuary.
During the concert, our trusty elves will draw our treat winners and, following the concert, you can stop in and pick up your delicious winnings!

Heather Cooper, Director of Music & Organist at Christ Presbyterian Church, will be providea delightful Holiday concert for us Friday on the Pryor-Gibbs organ in the Christ Church sanctuary following our meeting and lunch.
Heather's responsibilities at Christ Church include providing music for worship as well as organizing the annual concert series.
She recently appeared as featured organ soloist on the Canton Symphony Masterworks series, presenting Guilmant’s Symphony No. 1 in D minor for Organ and Orchestra, the famous Widor “Toccata”, as well as the beloved “Organ” Symphony No. 3 of Saint-Saëns. She previously served as accompanist for the CSO Chorus for several years.
Heather is also Principal Conductor of Summit Choral Society, where she directs the flagship children’s ensemble, Performance Choir. The choir has performed locally with the Canton Symphony and Akron Symphony in performances of Carmina Burana by Orff, Elijah by Mendelssohn, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Mendelssohn.
Heather has conducted choral ensembles at some of the most famous venues in the country, including Carnegie Hall, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and the Grand Ole Opry.
Fellowship Chair Shawn Dougherty wants to remind us all that there will be a Fellowship Gathering/Happy Hour at the Canton Brewing Company on Thursday 12/16/21 starting at 4 PM.
We encourage all Canton Rotarians to attend, and to bring family, friends or any other guests who might like to come along for a pleasant evening. No reservations are necessary, just show up and look for Shawn and other members.
For your info, Canton Brewing Company lists these beers on their website as currently on tap: Carpe Noctem Coffee Porter (brewed with Carpe Diem coffee), Slurp Key Lime Sour Beer, Tuscora German-style Pilsner, Luplin Wave IPA, Black Jack Dunkel, Keanu IPA, and Cafe Society Cream Ale. of course, they have a full menu and other adult beverages, too.
What a wonderful meeting we had last week with the presentation by Laura Smiley from WAPS 91.3 FM in Akron. It wasn’t too difficult to realize why she is a Rotarian with our Akron sister club. Her passion for the work she does on the job and the for community shines through like a beacon.
This week is our holiday meeting as we close out the year. It will provide the opportunity to enjoy some wonderful music, catch up with friends, and if your lucky, you will go home with some special “Sweet Treats”. Tickets are 2 for a buck or 12 for 5 bucks. Remember that the more you buy, the better your chances of winning that special item.
Regardless of the way you celebrate, or the holiday you celebrate, I hope it provides you with an opportunity to slow down and be present for those you care deeply about. It doesn’t really matter what you do to make this happen, but I hope you find the opportunity to do so. Take some time to reflect less on what you may not have yet, and more on all the blessings you already have.

At our meeting last Friday 12/10/21, President Mark welcomed about 40 folks, including two guests, Laura Smiley (our guest speaker) and Greg Kalikas (guest of Sam Shaheen). Laura provided some great info re: WAPS 91.3 FM in Akron, particularly their eclectic music mix, and the music outreach they have for children, as well as folks with addiction problems.

We're back in Beautiful Downtown Canton, at the historic Christ Presbyterian Church at 530 Tuscarawas Street West. Parking lot and entrance are on the west side of the building. Meeting room at the top of the stairs and an elevator is available. Meals are provided by our old friend Terry from Mr. Mike's Catering.
