THIS WEEK - DON'T MISS OUR "NEW & IMPROVED" 4-WAY TEST SPEECH CONTEST!
 DO NOT THIS WEEK'S MEETING!

If you've ever attended our annual 4-Way Test Speech Competition at Canton Rotary, then you know what an AMAZING job these McKinley High School Speech & Debate Team members do applying the 4-Way Test! It really is a meeting NOT to be missed!

Well, we're happy to announce that this Competition is now BIGGER & BETTER!

First of all, there has been an addition of one more speaker to round us out at FOUR contestants.

Secondly, the Board has approved additional support of the program by increasing the prize money that the participants will receive:

1st place ……$300

2nd place…….$200

3rd place……. $100

4th place …….$100

Thirdly, the Board also approved an additional $300 to sponsor the McKinley speech team with their events. That totals up to $1,000 in additional support to this fine program and their excellent team members!

So please plan to attend the Canton Rotary 4 – Way Test Competition this Friday March 18th between four McKinley Students, with the winner earning the right to represent us at District 6650 competition on April 2nd at the Fairways Golf Club in N. Canton.

These students are extremely well-trained by long-time coach, Manuel Halkias, and Kitty Burgett, and their teams consistently place at or near the top in state, local, and regional competitions.

You do NOT want to miss this chance to see these top-quality teen speakers at this meeting!

BTW…. I will need 3 judges to score their presentations. Please let me know if you are interested in helping! Jeff Scott

Jeff Scott moved to Canton from Indianapolis in 1978 to apprentice for Gary Gerber and work in his Gary's Place salons. Jeff's professional background began as a stylist and soon developed into a hair color and cutting educator for Framesi USA and Clairol Logics as well as performing classes on Educational Cruise Seminars for five years. Jeff became manager of the salon chain in 1989 heading up education, hiring and training new staff members as well as customer service-related duties. CANTON ROTARY BLANKET PROJECT!

Help support the Rotary Blanket Project!

This year’s Ohio Rotary Presidents-Elect (PETS) has chosen a very special group to support:

My Very Own Blanket is dedicated to warming the heart of every child in the foster care system and other youth in need with their own blanket, to give them a feeling of comfort, security, and most of all, a SMILE.

PETS has set a goal of Ohio Rotarians donating 16,000 blankets to be distributed to children throughout each district. We need your help to reach this goal!

How can you help?

1. Join us at our blanket-making event with our Interact Students on Wednesday, March 30th from 3:00-5:30 at the Canton Symphony Orchestra’s Zimmerman Center, located at McKinley High School where we will work together to make it easy to assemble fleece blankets from kits that the club has purchased.

2. Grab a kit to make at home!  This is a great opportunity to get spouses, children, and grandchildren, neighbors, and friends involved with our project.

Kits will be available at Friday meetings, or if one needs to be dropped off to someone, email Jennie George or Rich Micelli and we can arrange to have a kit delivered.  These blankets take about 60-90 minutes to make.  Blankets are due by Friday, March 25th.

To sign up for the blanket day, to get a blanket kit, or for more information please contact Jennie George at jgeorge@cantoncpc.org or Rich Micelli at rmicelli@ymcastark.org

PRESIDENT MARK'S WEEKLY MUSINGS

Fellow Rotarians,

So far March has been a month of very interesting and inspiring speakers and activities, and this week will most certainly continue the streak with Jeff Scott leading the way for our 4-way Speech Contest.  I really enjoy this meeting, as it provides an opportunity for our youth to express their thoughts, and to incorporate our 4-way test into their presentation.

Please make every attempt to attend this week and support the youth that someday will carry the Canton Rotary torch for us.  You may have noticed that you didn’t receive an Eventbrite invitation to this week’s event.  We have elected to discontinue this process and now hope that we all know by no where and when our lunch meetings are, as well as the importance of attending them.  If you have been attending regularly, thank you.  If you have been unable to attend in person, but jump on Zoom with us, thank you.  If you happen to be missing both the in-person and/or Zoom, please engage.  We need you.

Speaking of needing you, the Spring Raffle fundraiser is essential to our continued charitable activities.  It has been a very low turnout so far and I am urging you to please go online this week and participate, as well as getting the flyer out to friends and relatives and making a plea to them.  It's so important that we have the funding to do the charitable activities we are known for.

I’ll see you Friday,

President Mark

WHAT'D I MISS LAST WEEK?
