PRESIDENT MARK'S WEEKLY COMMENTS

I hope your all having the start to 2022 that you envisioned.  There is something about the start of a new year that seems to generate some internal clock that creates a renewed commitment to service to others and care for self.

When I think of this start of the new year, which is the also the start of the second half of the Rotary Year, I can’t help but to get the feeling that the first half of the year was simply the opening act, and now we’re going to pull the curtain back for the main event.  We have several projects coming up that will make this Rotary year another for the record books.

Together, let’s make this a year to remember

President Mark

WHAT'D I MISS LAST WEEK?
President-elect Lynn Hamilton, subbing for President Mark, welcomed 34 Rotarians and 1 guest to our meeting last Friday.

Secretary Paula provided the following:

On This Date in History:

1789 – Congress set January 7 as the date by which states are required to choose electors for the country's first-ever presidential election. A month later, on February 4, George Washington was elected president and sworn into office on April 30.
1927 – The first commercial transatlantic telephone service took place between New York and London.
1963 – The rift between Cleveland Browns owner, Art Modell, and head coach, Paul Brown, reaches a boiling point and Brown is fired.
1980 – President Jimmy Carter authorizes the $1.5 billion bailout of the Chrysler Corporation.
1999 – President Bill Clinton’s impeachment trail began today after the House voted to impeach him for lying about his affair with Monica Lewinsky.
2021 – Elon Musk was named the world’s richest man, worth $186 billion, overtaking Amazon’s Jeff Bezos.

Weird Fact:
January 7th is “I’m Not Going to Take It Anymore Day” and “National Pass Gas Day”. Paula leaves it to you to make any connection between those to facts.........

ROTARIAN BILL LUNTZ PASSES
it is with great sadness that we report the passing of William Luntz, long-time Canton Rotarian and community activist, on New Year's Day.

We will not list all of Bill's accomplishments or all of the community organizations he successfully supported and nurtured, and, in some cases founded, but suffice it to say, he embodied the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self"! Rest in peace, Bill.
