 Nancy J. O’Hara, PCC, LICDC, RN
Nancy is proud to let you know that she was born and raised in Canton, along with her six siblings. Her own four children received immeasurable benefits by graduating from the Canton City School System and were well prepared to attend colleges that led them to a diverse set of professional careers. In short, Nancy’s “Canton Folk”.
She is a graduate of Mercy School of Professional Nursing, the University of Mount Union, majoring in psychology and the University of Akron’s Community Counseling Program
Professionally, she is licensed in three areas in Ohio: as a Professional Clinical Counselor, Licensed Independent Drug and Alcohol Counselor and as a Registered Nurse.
As a nurse Nancy worked in a variety of hospital settings, including: emergency department, operating room, obstetrics and medical-surgical units.
As an addictions specialist, she worked for two Adolescent Inpatient Treatment Units as a Family Therapist: CompCare and Glenbeigh
As a Professional Clinical Counselor, Nancy has worked in both agency and private practice settings. Currently she is employed at Human Development and Counseling Associates, Inc - a private practice group of Psychologists, Licensed Independent Social Workers, and Professional Clinical Counselors. Her practice includes counseling for a diverse population ranging in ages from late teens to geriatric. Her emphasis is working with people who are experiencing depression, generalized anxiety or panic attacks, individuals who are Deaf and their families, people with acute or chronic medical conditions and individuals and/or family members where alcoholism or addiction is a factor.
Nancy has presented at local and state workshops and has been a guest lecturer at Walsh University, Stark State College, the University of Akron and the University of Cincinnati on topics such as:
The Impact of Alcoholism & Addiction on Family Members
Stress: It’s Not a Four Letter Word
The Power of Language - Communication Techniques
Understanding Depression - It’s Worth Knowing About
Deaf Culture
Family-of Origin Roles & Relationships
and a variety of other wellness related topics.
Nancy says she is grateful for the wide-scope of professional experiences she has had. About her current employment she notes: “I smile walking into work. I smile walking out.”

 Marisa Rohn is the Vice President of Marketing and Fund Development at Goodwill Industries of Greater Cleveland & East Central Ohio, Inc.
In her position, Marisa also plays a larger role within the organization as a member of Goodwill’s Leadership Team. During her time with Goodwill, the organization has seen rapid growth, including its acquisition of the Cleveland Goodwill in 2005.
Marisa coordinated and worked with a team of staff and volunteers to successfully complete a $4.3 million Capital Campaign to support The Community Campus at Goodwill. Marisa also acts as liaison to the 20+ non-profits that are currently located at The Campus.
Marisa is a graduate of the 23rd Class of Leadership Stark County, Chair of Leadership’s Asset Building Committee, Chair of the Athena International Women’s Leadership Day Luncheon, past chair for the Marketing Professionals of the Ohio Association of Goodwills, and was recognized in 2013 as one of the Twenty Under Forty Young Professionals in Stark County.
Probably the greatest achievement to Marisa is her family. She and her husband Rich are raising two beautiful daughters, Haley and Alayna, who attend Jackson Local Schools.

Recollections of Past President, Virginia Neutzling, 2002-2003
 Our membership was between 310 and 315 that year with eleven new members joining our ranks. We encourage good attendance by involving members in our club’s service activities. Our meeting were held at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Canton.
Some of our most memorable speakers were: member Merritt Wolfe: “Battle of Britain”; member Dale Frantz: “WWII POW - Bataan Death March”; and Gerhardt Zimmerman: “Living With Polio”.
One of our most significant achievements was that our club pledged $90,000 to RI’s Polio Plus Campaign which was completed in 2004-2005 and our club and its members also hosted a Russian Medical Delegation for 23 days. Our members organized several club social events while they were here.
Our club had several successful fund raisers: Pancake Day: $34,855; Holiday Cards: $14,454; Ribs Burnoff: $3,361; Golf Outing: $3,000 and Westfield Works: $1,285. A special thanks to member Tom Franta who retired in 2002 after painting scenes for our Holiday Cards from 1983 -2002. Well done, Tom!
Our club won several awards at District Conference, including International Service. I was privileged to attend the RI Convention in Barcelona, Spain where I enjoyed meeting Rotarians from many parts of the world. This experience reaffirmed my appreciation for Rotary’s world-wide influence for good.
The No Child Left Behind Law, the Columbia Space Shuttle Disaster and the completion of the Human Genome Project were a few of the significant news stories of the day.
I agreed to serve as president of our club because it provide me with a continued opportunity to serve Rotary. Becky served our club as the President’s Administrator and our offices were located on the first floor of the Bliss Tower.
Betty Taylor, Red Cross Director sponsored me in Rotary and I joined because Rotary offered so many opportunities to volunteer. The spirit of volunteerism, helping those less fortunate both at home and abroad, is what I enjoy most about being a Rotarian. This is also what I think is most important for others to understand about Rotary International and our own Rotary Club of Canton.
I have been most influenced by Rotarians PDG Dave Ewing, PDG Joe Guenther and PP Richard Farson, all outstanding examples of “service above self”.
During my time in our club I have seen a reduction in membership and fewer service projects.
My most memorable experience that year was the visit by the Russian medical delegation. It was a huge undertaking with district-wide involvement and it was a huge success for which our club can be very proud!
Note: Virginia Neutzling was the first woman ever to serve as our club’s president. Thank you for your service, Virginia!

"I want to encourage all Rotarians from Division 2A (Stark County) to take an evening to attend the Rotary Foundation Celebration that will be held on November 15th at the Canton Club (Downtown Canton). The same program will be held the previous night in Youngstown if that date works better for you. The RI Foundation is one of the best in the world, with an incredible list of achievements and the highest possible ratings from charity watchdogs. Of course, our work with Polio is legendary. However, that is the tip of the iceberg for the RI Foundation.
Governor Phil has worked to keep the program brief and interesting, avoiding pleas for money and instead truly celebrating our Foundation and all that it has accomplished. It is also inexpensive ($20/person). Our featured speaker is Tom Thorfinnson, who is an outstanding and moving spokesperson for the Foundation. There will be a cash bar and social hour from 6 pm to 7 pm, with the program running from 7 pm until 8:15 pm. I encourage you to bring your spouse, a friend, or someone who might be interested in Rotary. There is no better way to see that Rotarians really do improve both their communities and the world. What you will learn will inspire you and make you proud to be a Rotarian. Great venue, great company, and a great speaker! I hope to see you there."

An evening of fellowship is being scheduled for November 23, 2014 to attend an evening with the Canton Symphony Orchestra. The program will be WW1 & WW2 - Remembrance beginning at 7:30 pm. Rachel L. Waddell will be the conductor of this remembrance of the 100th anniversary of WWI and 75th anniversary of WWII

 As you know, our Canton Rotary Club will be 100 years old in 2015. What better way to celebrate this monumental milestone than to show your support for The Canton Rotary Charitable Fund. Your donation will help our continuing commitment to “Service Above Self” with the charitable work that we do.
With the centennial celebration, we are looking to raise our profile in the community with some new projects that will not only serve Canton but also raise the profile of The Rotary Club of Canton. To prepare for this historic event, our club needs your continued support with your annual contribution to The Canton Rotary Charitable Fund.
This Charitable fund was established in 1970 to fund our community charitable ventures. Contributions raised last year helped support some of the following projects:

 The upcoming McKinley/Massillon joint rally Rotary meeting will be held on Friday, October 31st at the Eagles #190 in Massillon located at 303 Weirich Blvd. N.W.
