Mr. Bennett is a graduate of the University of Akron with a Bachelors in Science in Civil Engineering.  Prior to becoming Stark County Engineer in January of 2010 he worked in private practice for 25 years concentrating on transportation engineering including highway and bridge design.  He served as President and Chief Financial Officer for a regional civil engineering, surveying and planning firm.  His main focus during that time included working with various state, county and local agencies in the design and inspection of bridges and roadways.  He served as lead design engineer and project manager on numerous bridge projects throughout Ohio including the Dressler Road / Hall of Fame Bridge over Interstate 77 in Stark County.  He also oversaw Countywide Bridge Inspection Programs for several counties in eastern Ohio that included the annual inspection of over 1500 bridges.  He also has significant design experience in the design of water distribution systems waterlines, pump stations and water storage facilities.

He is a registered Professional Engineer in Ohio and West Virginia.  He is also a registered Professional Surveyor in Ohio and West Virginia. 

His many volunteer efforts have been concentrated in community service and professional development.  He served as Chairman of the Ribs Burnoff and is currently vice-chairman of the Balloon Classic for the Professional Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival.  He also serves as a board member and Immediate Past President of the Friends of the Children's Network and as a board member for the Buckeye Council of the Boys Scouts of America.  He is a board member of the Cuyahoga Valley Section of the American Society of Highway Engineers and a member of the American Society of Engineers.

Mr. Bennett has been involved in the fields of civil engineering and surveying since high school, working for his father on surveying crews during the summers.  He and his father have the distinction of being one of a few father / son teams to serve as County Engineers at the same time.  His father, Fred Bennett, has been County Engineer in Belmont County, Ohio for the past 38 years. 

Mr. Bennett has been a resident of Stark County for 30 years and currently resides in North Canton with his wife, Barbara, and two children.

Rotarians, it is once again the "giving" time of year when we remember the exceptional service the staff of Meyer's Lake Ballroom/Mr. Mike's Catering has provided to us throughout the year.  We will begin taking donations for these fine individuals this THURSDAY, December 4th as well as Friday, December 12th.

 

Any monetary amount is appreciated!  Just look for the "tip" containers which will be located on the attendance table to make your donation.

Past President Mike Gregorek announces we are still looking for members to sign-up for the Canton Rotary's annual round of bell-ringing for the Salvation Army. We will be manning the kettles at Fisher Foods located on 44th Street and Fishers on Fulton Road on Saturday, December 6th.  Each time slot will consist of TWO Rotarians manning the kettles for a TWO HOUR shift. 4pm-6pm (1 volunteer needed for 44th St.; 2 volunteers needed Fulton Rd.)

The Rotary Club of Canton will participate in Canton's "Light-up Downtown" event on Thursday, December 4, 2014 from 6-8 pm.  We will open the Rotary office up to the public, where we will have card stock, stickers, scissors, markers and other items to make a Holiday card for our military servicemen and -women who will not be home for the Holidays.  Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided.

 

Any Canton Rotarian wanting to donate some of their time to this new and worthwhile endeavor is asked to contact the Rotary office at (330) 452-2882. Any time you can give would be greatly appreciated!

To kick off the Holiday season in December and to help the Charitable Fund, President Elect Paul White would like to put together a "Holiday Gift Basket" and auction it off during our meeting on December 19, 2014. This Holiday gift basket would be full of Ohio Lottery tickets and gift cards to area restaurants.  The proceeds from this gift basket will also benefit the Charitable Fund account.

 

We are asking members to begin bringing in Lottery tickets and/or gift certificates to area restaurants to fill this basket!  This will be a very nice Holiday gift for either yourself or family members!!  Any questions, please feel free to contact the Rotary office at (330) 452-2882.

Message from the Chair – “Rotary’s future is in your hands”   

 

In his inaugural address, U.S. President John F. Kennedy made this often quoted exhortation:  “Ask not what you can do for your country.”

 

The same sentiments could be applied to the membership of Rotary.  Whether Rotary will survive or whether it will falter, whether our service will mean much to many or little to few, whether Rotary is known with respect or seen as a relic of days gone by, will be up to each and every Rotarian.

 

There is so much to be done in our world – to educate the illiterate, feed the hungry, provide shelter to the homeless.  Our world is still ill divided, and the gap is not shrinking between the haves and the have-nots.  But to whom much has been given, much is expected.

 

The most important people in Rotary are not the directors of the Board or the trustees of our Rotary Foundation, but the individual Rotarians working quietly in their clubs to assist those in communities who are less fortunate than themselves, for whom they know the need is great.  This is Rotary at its finest: Rotarians identifying a need and responding to it.

 

For many, this is a special time of year.  May it bring to each of you the blessings that if offers.

 

As we Light Up Rotary, let us remember that the future of our Foundation is in your hands.”
