Rotarians, it is once again the "giving" time of year when we remember the exceptional service the staff of Meyer's Lake Ballroom/Mr. Mike's Catering has provided to us throughout the year. We will begin taking donations for these fine individuals this THURSDAY, December 4th as well as Friday, December 12th.
Any monetary amount is appreciated! Just look for the "tip" containers which will be located on the attendance table to make your donation.
Past President Mike Gregorek announces we are still looking for members to sign-up for the Canton Rotary's annual round of bell-ringing for the Salvation Army. We will be manning the kettles at Fisher Foods located on 44th Street and Fishers on Fulton Road on Saturday, December 6th. Each time slot will consist of TWO Rotarians manning the kettles for a TWO HOUR shift. The following time slots are still available:
The Rotary Club of Canton will participate in Canton's "Light-up Downtown" event on Thursday, December 4, 2014 from 6-8 pm. We will open the Rotary office up to the public, where we will have card stock, stickers, scissors, markers and other items to make a Holiday card for our military servicemen and -women who will not be home for the Holidays. Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided.
Any Canton Rotarian wanting to donate some of their time to this new and worthwhile endeavor is asked to contact the Rotary office at (330) 452-2882. Any time you can give would be greatly appreciated!
To kick off the Holiday season in December and to help the Charitable Fund, President Elect Paul White would like to put together a "Holiday Gift Basket" and auction it off during our meeting on December 19, 2014. This Holiday gift basket would be full of Ohio Lottery tickets and gift cards to area restaurants. The proceeds from this gift basket will also benefit the Charitable Fund account.
We are asking members to begin bringing in Lottery tickets and/or gift certificates to area restaurants to fill this basket! This will be a very nice Holiday gift for either yourself or family members!! Any questions, please feel free to contact the Rotary office at (330) 452-2882.
Please mark your calendar for Saturday, March 14, 2015, for the Rotary Club of Canton's Annual Pancake Breakfast and Pick Your Prize Raffle! This year's event will once again be held at McKinley High School. The Pancake Breakfast will include: Pancakes, Sausage, Orange Juice, Coffee and Milk.
A Pick Your prize Raffle will be displayed with many wonderful items to choose from! You can purchase tickets the day of the event and then decide what prizes you want to win by placing your ticket(s) into the corresponding bag in front of the item you are interested in. You will not need to be present to win.
The breakfast and raffle is the Rotary's largest fundraiser and helps fund our many, local charitable efforts through the year including:
Rotary Scouts
Foster Parenting
Rotary Youth Exchange program
Interact Club
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Celebrating a Century of Service – The Rotary Club of Canton 1915-2015
Here’s an interesting bit of club history from 1924-25. The following “Political Advertisement” appeared in the local newspaper and was paid for by William Daberko, our club’s eleventh president in 1924-25. Daberko was the grandfather of current member and past president, John R. Werren (78-79) and the great-grandfather of current member and past president, Curt Werren (2012-13).
At our weekly meeting on November 21, 2014, President Tom asked everyone to keep Rotarian Greg Triner and his family in their thoughts and prayers on the passing of Greg's father, Tim Triner. President Tom also asked for volunteers to work at the Rotary office during Canton's "Light Up Downtown" event being held on Thursday, December 4th. Anyone interested in giving of their time, please contact the Rotary office and talk to Lauri or Barb. President Tom also reminded the members that the next regular Rotary meeting after the Thanksgiving holiday break will take place on THURSDAY, December 4, 2014 at Meyer's Lake Ballroom.
President Elect Paul White announced another way to raise money to help the Charitable Fund Drive. A "Holiday Gift Basket" will be auctioned off during the last meeting before the Holiday break. He is asking everyone's help by bringing an Ohio Lottery ticket or a gift card from an area restaurant to one of our upcoming meetings. This gift basket will be a wonderful Holiday gift for yourself or a family member.
Past President Mike Gregorek stated the Salvation Army Bell ringing was still in need of more volunteers. Please see the story in this edition of the Rotogram for the time slots still needing to be filled for December 6th.
Club Secretary Amanda Tietze welcomed the following guests to our meeting: Anthony Day, Larry Herman and Mary Jo Lochshin.
The "Happy Bucks" news was then provided by the following Rotarians: Teresa Dixon thanked the Rotary members for their support of the "Thanksgiving Baskets Downtown"; Bruce Schorsten is happy the Rotary Club supports the Salvation Army with their bell ringing efforts. He said they help a lot of individuals that are in need and its a worthwhile cause so sign up if you have not already done so. As a side note he requested if anyone can sing or ring a bell his "Schorsten singers" time slot is in need of help. The hours for his shift are 2pm-4pm at Fisher Foods on Fulton; President Tom then thanked Rotarian Mark Rojek for helping out with transportation for the students to attend the World Affairs event.

The following Rotarians received a make-up for attending the Endowment Committee meeting held on November 19th: Tom Clevenger, Dave Schrade, Greg Luntz, Mike Eberhart, Don Sultzbach, Lynn Hamilton, Dave Roberts and Curt Werren.
The following Rotarians turned in make-ups at Friday's meeting: Dave Truax (Wooster), Virginia Neutzling (North Canton) and Bob Matthews (Venice Nokomis).
