JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT IS BACK IN ACTION! WE CAN HELP MCKINLEY JUNIORS PREPARE TO GET A JOB!

Canton Rotary has a long history of working with Junior Achievement to bring lessons on Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurship, and Work Readiness to students in our area, particularly Canton City Schools.

This fits in perfectly with Rotary's Vocational pillar, sharing insight into one's career experiences. It also fits with our club's mission of helping our local youth.

Here's an opportunity for us to help out JA:

- When: Tuesday May 10th
- Where: Kent State - Stark Branch
- What: Lessons and mentoring on Resumes, Applications, Interviewing, Dressing for Success, and discussions on careers, work, etc.
- To Whom: 150 McKinley High School Juniors
- Commitment: 9 AM to 1 PM (if you can't make the whole time, slots will be open to have a working lunch with a small group of 7 - 8 students for personal discussions, two mentors per table, approximately one hour commitment minimum.

At this point, I believe JA could use as many volunteers as possible, to make it easier for each mentor.
JA will provide basically all materials needed, plus training. You just need to provide your time and your personal experience from your professional career.

There will be folks there from:

Citizen’s Bank- Melissa Herdon, Heather Sullivan, Ta’Shea  Johnson
Great Work Employment- Cody and Angelina (Rae-lin email)
Goodwill: Emma Walsh and Cynthia Goodall
Shearer’s: Kim Davenport
SCHRA: TBD- Brenda Basso
HP Products- Abby Keleman, Lauren Higgins
SMART- Jerry Duriex
Other: Katie Tolin, Kevin Villancourt

Please contact Rick Taylor at rickt@kozmosgrille.com or via phone or text at 330-575-2870 if you are interested.
WHAT'D I MISS LAST WEEK?
Last Friday April 8, 2022, President-elect Lynn Hamilton, subbing for President Mark (who was headed with wife Traci to see their son graduate from USAF flight school) welcomed around 30+ Canton Rotarians, and one guest, Alena Fiooca, guest of VP Paul Hervey. Those on site and on Zoom saw a great presentation from Kelly Joseph, from Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway, describing W&LE's far reaching business and their positive impact on the local economy! Thanks so much, Kelly!

Secretary Paula presented the following interesting info:

This Day in History:

1974 - American baseball player Hank Aaron hit his 715th career home run, breaking Babe Ruth's record that had stood since 1935. Aaron finished his career in 1976 with 755 home runs.

1979 - The final episode of All in the Family aired on CBS. One of TV's most successful sitcoms, it was known for its frank and satirical treatment of such topics as race, gender, sex, and bigotry.

1994 – Grunge rock star, Kurt Cobain, was found dead in his home in Seattle, Washington three days after his suicide.

2021 - Egyptian archaeologists announce their most important find since Tutankhamun's tomb, the discovery of the lost “Golden City”, the 3,000 year-old ancient city of Aten near Luxor.
