The traditional joint rally of the Rotary Clubs of Canton and Massillon preceding the 126th renewal of the ancient football rivalry between the Bulldogs and Tigers will be held Friday at the Meyer's Lake Ballroom.
The opposing head coaches will introduce a contingent of key players from their respective teams. The Mayors of Canton and Massillon will be in attendance as well as distinguished guests from each school district.

Our moderator for Friday’s Annual McKinley – Massillon Rivalry meeting of the Canton & Massillon Rotary Clubs will be WDJQ sportscaster, T.J. Downing.
T. J. was a three year starter for Coach Jack Rose at GlenOak High School, earning first team All Federal League, first team All County, and first team All Northeast Inland Team honors twice, and being named first team All Ohio in 2002. T. J helped the Golden Eagles reach the state football finals in 2001.
T. J. was also a three year starter for THE Ohio State Buckeyes, playing for Coach Jim Tressel. During his career at OSU, amongst many other honors and accomplishments, T. J. earned consensus first team All Big 10 honors and second team AP All American honors in 2006, leading the Buckeyes to BCS national Championship game that year.
After T. J.’s football career, he returned to the Canton area, where he served as offensive line coach for the GlenOak Golden Eagles from 2010 – 11. He currently sits on the board of trustees for “In Your Shoes”, a foundation that raises awareness of and funds for Congenital Heart Defects.
T. J. serves as the radio color analyst for Mount Union Univerity’s football games, and is Project Manager for SANDD Venture Capital, founded in 2012 by T. J. and former teammate, Troy Smith, which specializes in alternative energy, real estate, and private investment.
Coach Nate Moore was hired as Massillon Washington High’s head coach in January, 2015. He is widely recognized as one of the most respected coaches in High School football. In his formative years as an assistant, Coach Moore worked at Chaminade-Julienne Catholic High School and Hamilton High School under legendary Hall of Fame coach, Jim Place. In 5 years as a head coach, prior to coming to Massillon, Coach Moore had compiled a 42-21 overall and a 10-3 playoff record while taking over two struggling football programs, Minster and LaSalle, that play in what are regarded as two of the toughest conferences in the state.
Prior to Moore’s arrival, La Salle had never won a playoff game and had shared the GCL South title just twice in its 53 years of existence. In 2014, Coach Moore led the La Salle Lancers to the Division II State Football title, finishing with a 14-1 record and a GCL South Co-Championship.
Coach Moore is a graduate of Mason High School and received his BS in Physical Education from the University of Dayton.
Coach Moore is married to his wife, Becca, and they have two children, Eli and Ella, as well as guardianship of their nephew, Ashford.
Coach Dan Reardon was hired as Head Football Coach at Canton McKinley High School in March, 2015, after spending the last three years as a head coach in Colorado.
His 2014 Wheat Ridge team had a top-16 finish in Colorado’s 4A Classification and his 2013 Poudre High team won the Fort Collins City Championship.
Prior to moving to Colorado, he was the head coach at Youngstown Ursuline High School where his teams averaged nine wins per year during his tenure. His teams also had a play-off record of 20-2 over five appearances.
Coach Reardon has received numerous awards during his previous tenure as a coach in Northeast Ohio, including the National Football Foundation Paul Brown NEO Coach of the Year award three times and the Mahoning Valley Coaches Association Coach of the Year award twice. He also was inducted into the Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame in 2010.
Coach Reardon graduated of Canfield High School and Youngstown State University, and earned a masters degree from Indiana University. Dan and his wife, Amanda, have four children, Emma (15), Matthew (13), Patrick (5), and Grace (3).

At our meeting on October 23, Dean Gogolewski presented the Character Champion Awards for October, 2015 to Gabrielle Carafelli and Lepear Toles.
Gabrielle Carafelli has been chosen as a McKinley Character Champion because of her generosity and community service. She loves to be creative, and expresses this through her writing and photography. She loves to write poetry, and she has been participating in poetry open mic evens for two years, where she loves to perform in front of others and share her love of writing. She chooses to use her skills as a photographer as a way to help her fellow seniors. She does this by taking senior portraits for students who cannot afford to go to a professional photographer. She also volunteers frequently at First Friday. She is a strong student, taking many advanced and AP courses throughout high school. After high school Gabrielle plans to major in journalism and minor in photography.
Lepear Toles has been chosen as a Character Champion because of his positive attitude and strong leadership skills. His ability on the basketball court and football field are well known, but he is so much more. As a Bridge Builder, he has proven himself to be a positive force in the process of consolidating the two Canton City high schools. He is a leader among his peers and has spent many hours giving input and helping to carry out the transition. He is an intelligent, insightful young man who is challenging himself with both an Advanced Placement and Advanced course during his senior year. Lepear will certainly attend college next Fall,and may become a Nursing major.
