Tim Wires has been with Family Court for 12 years as a probation supervisor. He is also a Special Deputy with the Stark County Sheriff's Office, and a Defensive Tactics instructor with the Ohio Supreme Court.
Tim will be speaking on the topic of "At Risk Youth in the City of Canton".
The Rotary office received a "Thank You" note from Helen Trompower. Helen is an employee of our weekly caterer, Mr. Mike's Catering. The note reads:

Being an exchange student is synonymous of self maturation and feelings that makes you want to turn this world into a better place! It's awesome! I owe all this experience to you, as I know, you all have been doing an amazing work through Rotary. My apologies for the absence from the meeting, and I wish you all a wonderful holidays time and a prosperous year! Thank you!"
The Rotary Club of Canton received a "Thank You" note from Angela Palomba, Executive Director of The First Tee of Canton. The note reads:
"Rotary Club of Canton, Thank you for the donation of $1,000 to the First Tee of Canton. Your support helps us achieve our mission of improving the lives of young people in our community. On behalf of all of our participants and staff, thank you again for supporting The First Tee of Canton."
Please mark your calendar for Saturday, March 14, 2015, for the Rotary Club of Canton's Annual Pancake Breakfast, Pick Your Prize Raffle AND Health Screening Events! This year's event will once again be held at McKinley High School. The Pancake Breakfast will include: Pancakes, Sausage, Orange Juice, Coffee and Milk.
A Pick Your prize Raffle will be displayed with many wonderful items to choose from! You can purchase tickets the day of the event and then decide what prizes you want to win by placing your ticket(s) into the corresponding bag in front of the item you are interested in. You will not need to be present to win.
The breakfast and raffle combine to make the Rotary's largest fundraiser and help fund our many local charitable efforts through the year, including:

Foster Parenting
Rotary Youth Exchange program
Interact Club
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
Junior Achievement In a Day

Anyone interested in attending the January 15th (Thursday) Martin Luther King, Jr. Mayor's Breakfast held at the Alex D. Krassas Event Center, located at 251-25th Street N.W., Canton, Ohio 44709 (next door to Malone University) may contact the Rotary office. The breakfast will start at 8:00 am.
We only have one (1) complimentary ticket left, so please make your request to the Rotary office no later than January 9th. Tickets will be disbursed on a first-come first-serve basis.
We are looking for individuals who would like to be a Greeter Leader for either the month of January or February. This Greeter Leader would meet and greet Rotarians and guests when they arrive at the weekly meetings during the respective month they chose. You would be asked to contact 3-4 other Rotarians to assist you in greeting during the month.
Please contact the Rotary office or see Lauri or Barb during a Friday meeting if you are willing to help.
Recollections of Past President Scott Sandrock 1998-1999
Membership averaged about 325 during this year. Everyone wanted to join “The finest Rotary Club in the World” so we did not have any special membership development program.
The Attendance Committee sent reminders and called members to remind and encourage them to attend which contributed to our very good 85% average weekly attendance at the McKinley Grand Hotel downtown.
Notable programs during the year included: Edward Leslie, local resident and author of a book on “Quantrill – The Devil Knows How to Ride”; the Head of the U.S. Forest Service, Michael Dombeck; the Head of the U.S. Endowment for the Arts, William Ferris; The First Lady of Ohio, Hope Taft; and Sharon Hargrove, wife of Cleveland Indians' manager, Mike Hargrove. These were all outstanding programs which all helped to boost attendance.
Our most notable service projects included: GOTS – Guns Off The Street; Neighborhood Action Project, which performed home repairs to homes in Canton neighborhoods; and Rotary Scouts, a longtime significant Canton Rotary program. Pancake Day, Holiday Cards, and our Annual Charitable Fund Drive were all successful fund raisers.
We also had a great club social event, “Murder Mystery Dinner – Murder at the Rotary”, which all attendees enjoyed.
At the annual District Conference our club captured the Roland Luhman Award. All in all it was a great year with so many great Rotarians in our club.
I was honored to attend the Rotary International Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. The language barrier did present a problem…What the heck is a Hoosier? Attending this event reminded me of the common goal that Rotarians share to provide tangible help to their communities.
The fear that Y2K would somehow bring the world to a halt was a major news story that year. Thankfully it proved to be a false fear.
It was an honor to be asked to serve as president of our club. We had a lot of fun on Fridays as we celebrated the service efforts of many committees and we always enjoyed each other’s company and fellowship, a hallmark of Rotary membership and meetings.
Our club was blessed with the service of Jan Baker who served as President’s Administrator. Our offices were in the Bliss Tower.
Past President Bill Lundin (1990-1991) sponsored me into Canton Rotary. I always thought this was a great club and organization and I waited some years before I was invited to become a member. Thanks to Bill for asking me!
Over the ensuing years I have sponsored several new members including, Steve Belden, Dave Truax and Todd Witmer.
As many others have mentioned before, Past President Joe Guenther (1976-1977) had the greatest influence on me. He really thought we could do almost anything!
The biggest changes I’ve seen during my years in Rotary are: 1. Membership; and 2. Lack of full participation.
Being a Rotarian is great fun and I have met some really great people.
To me, the most important thing people should know and understand about Rotary International and the Rotary Club of Canton is that “Serving the people in your community with local focus is the best reward”.
Hopefully Rotary will continue to focus on “service” and “integrity” as we move forward. After all, that’s what Rotary is all about - “Service Above Self”.
A few final memories: Ask me someday about the “joke of the week”; and my wife made the Rotary President & First Spouse Pancake Aprons.
