WHAT'D I MISS LAST WEEK?
At our weekly meeting last Friday June 3, 2022, Past President Drew Pelger, filling in for a still-vacationing world traveler Mark Clendenin, welcomed over 30 Canton Rotarians, plus three guests: Joy Dougan and Joan Ortman, from the Plain Township Rotary, who updated us on the Purple Bag Project to assist Domestic Violence; and Michael Benevento, guest of PP Denny Fulmer. Mike Chadsey, from the Ohio Oil & Gas Association, presented an update on the present and future of the oil and gas industry in Ohio and surrounding states. As you can imagine, there were lots of questions about the cost of gasoline and other fuels!

Secretary Paula presented the following information:

This Day in History:

1784 – The US Army was officially established by Congress of the Confederation.

1937 - In France, the Duke of Windsor, formerly King Edward VIII of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, married Wallis Simpson, a divorced American socialite for whom he abdicated the British throne.

1946 – The first bikini bathing suit was put on display in Paris.  The reason for the scanty swimwear was partly due to material rationing after World War II (yeah, right!)

1965 – One hundred and twenty miles above the Earth, Major Edward H. White II opens the hatch of the Gemini 4 and steps out of the capsule, becoming the first American astronaut to walk in space.

1989 –Chinese troops open fire on pro-democracy supporters in what would become known as the Tiananmen Square Massacre in Beijing, China.

Fun Fact:

Today is Repeat Day.......Repeat Day......Repeat Day.......Repeat Day.......
