Mike Jones owns and operates Tierra Verde Farms in Deerfield, OH. Tierra Verde is a small family farm, that is dedicated to bringing the finest tasting, nutrient dense foods available today. They use regenerative and sustainable farming practices that are simultaneously animal and environment friendly. All their livestock is raised in a pastured environment that is as close to their natural habitat as they can create. Their beef and lamb are grass-fed to finish, never having any grain. The chicken, pork, turkey and laying hens are fed a supplemental feed which comes from Certified Non-GMO feed mill.
Shortly after his mother passed away in late 2007, Mike began thinking about farming and moving back home. He and his wife, Connie, were living in St. Pete Beach, Florida, but they were both originally from Mahoning County. Connie’s parents still live in the area. The original goal was to find some land in the country in northeast Ohio and use it to grow and raise their own food. After his mother died from cancer, Mike began thinking more critically about food. Mike doesn’t have a background in farming. He’s worked in software marketing and management. He has an engineering degree.
As Monty Python said, "Now for something completely different!" -
We've been thinking (dangerous, we know): maybe we should have an evening Happy Hour gathering once a month or so, in addition to our regular meetings?
No agenda, no announcements, no rituals, just a chance to hang with our Rotary friends and have a good time!
Well, we're going to give it a shot (no pun intended) on December 14th, as a CANTON ROTARY HOLIDAY HAPPY HOUR!
No reservations required, just pop into the 330 Bar & Grill at the new Doubletree Canton by Hilton anytime after 5 PM or so, and enjoy some good old Rotary FELLOWSHIP!
Plus food & beverages if you so choose, at your own expense, of course.
Join us on December 16th for our last meeting of 2022, which will be filled with great food, fun, and entertainment!
Each Rotarian is asked to bring their favorite culinary/holiday sweet treat that day to be raffled off at the meeting. It can be store-bought or homemade so don’t let a lack of talent in the kitchen stop you from participating!
When you arrive, you will be able to purchase raffle tickets (2 for $1.00 or 12 for $5.00) and during lunch you will be able to put your tickets in the boxes for the items you would like to win. The more you buy, the better your odds are to take home a delicious treat for your holiday gathering! Proceeds will benefit our Charitable Fund!
Following our delicious holiday meal you will enjoy the incredible talents of organist Heather Cooper for a delightful holiday music concert played on the Gibbs-Pryor organ in the Christ Church Sanctuary. During that time, our trusty elves will pull our treat winners, and, following the concert, you can stop in and pick up your delicious winnings!
This will be a great day to catch up with your Rotary friends or to bring a guest!
Don't miss this fun afternoon!
(Editor's note: if you haven't experienced Ms. Cooper on the amazing organ at Christ Presbyterian Church, you MUST take the opportunity at this event! She is a fantastic musician and the instrument is phenomenal! Do yourself a favor and join us that day.)
For those of us who are joining our Friday meetings via Zoom, a new link has been created to use starting with this Friday's meeting. The old link will no longer be active so please save this new link for future reference. Thank you and we'll "see" you Friday!
Help motivate President-Elect Paul Hervey to lose weight while helping to raise money for the Charitable Fund (note: this is our Annual Charitable Fund Drive!) Your donation depends upon how much weight Hervey loses. (Hint: he could stand to lose a lot!)
Bonus: If we raise $20,000, Past Presidents Mark Clendenin and Drew Pelger have volunteered to take the Polar Bear Plunge in February!
Let’s work together to make it happen! You can fill out and return this form or send in your pledge to Paul (paul@hervey.co, 330-704-2935).
Thank you in advance for your wonderful support.
