PLEASE READ...IMPORTANT INFORMATION --As of July 10, 2015, new changes took place at our Friday meeting. The Rotary office has had to adjust to some new requirements on the services provided by ClubRunner and we will had to implement these changes during our regular Friday meetings.  

 

Each member will need to have their badge SCANNED to show they were present at that particular meeting and to receive credit for their attendance. There are new barcodes which have been attached to each badge and this information will go directly into the ClubRunner system.  ***There will no longer be an attendance table watching you enter the meeting (even if you are late) so it is your responsibility to stop by the badge table and have your badge scanned by Dale Holwick.

 

Secondly, there will NO LONGER BE CASH OR CHECKS ACCEPTED at the meetings to pay for lunches.  We will be using a credit card/debit card scanner that will accept all major credit cards as well as debit cards to pay for lunches.

 

We appreciate everyone's cooperation and understanding during this new transition.  We understand this may be an inconvenience to some, but please understand there are changes that are being made that the Rotary office needs to follow. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

 

 

 

 

Rotarians, we are at the beginning of a new Rotary year!  With this being said, our weekly Friday meetings will once again begin at NOON. Please plan to arrive prior to the start of each meeting.  Thank you!

 

 

 

 Joe Savarise comes to OH&LA from his role as a Senior Vice President with BIPAC, the Business-Industry Political Action Committee, based in in Washington, DC.  Joe joined BIPAC in January 2007. He oversaw a national field team and the deployment of an employer-to-employee communication and education program known as the “Prosperity Project” in states across the nation.  Part of his responsibility was providing a direct channel of service and support and communication to member businesses and trade associations throughout the country.  He helped grow BIPAC’s state network from just over 20 partners to more than 70 participating state, regional and local business organizations in 45 states, many of them state Chambers or joint Chamber/Manufacturer affiliates.  He worked with statewide business organizations each day to help facilitate more effective communications regarding public policy and elections to employees and associates, and to help the business community promote efforts aimed at producing economic growth, competitiveness and jobs.

He also served as a member of the Boards of Directors of the Ohio Prosperity Project and ProsperityNevada 501(c)(4) entities.  With those organizations, he worked with a number of leading business groups and corporations in each state to help educate employers and employees about the political process and elections.

Prior to working with the Prosperity Project, he served as Director of Communications and Public Affairs for the Professional Insurance Agents Association of Ohio, serving thousands of insurance professionals and their business clients across the state.  He previously had experience as a staff member in the Ohio House of Representatives, including Minority Caucus Press Secretary, Policy/Research Staff, and Legislative Aide, as well as field staff and campaign manager for several state legislative campaigns.

Joe is a native Ohioan, born and raised in Ashtabula, and a graduate of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University in Athens.   He and his wife Stacey reside near Pickerington.

Thursday Sept. 17, will be the inaugural Canton Rotary Oktoberfest. Our goal is to make this event one that elevates the name and image of Canton Rotary in our community, that becomes our signature fundraiser for our club’s charitable fund, and to be a fun event with lots of participation from Canton Rotarians that will also help in recruiting new members and build fellowship within Canton Rotary.

 

We need the support of all Canton Rotarians in this new event to make it successful. There are many ways to support this event – volunteering to work the day of the event, event sponsorship, selling tickets for the event, and more. Please note – Rotarians are NOT going to be asked to buy the tickets, but rather to promote the ticket sales at their business and with their friends.

Location – Market St N. between 3^rd and Tuscarawas

Tickets - $30 in advance, $40 at gate

 

What is the Canton Rotary Oktoberfest? Our Oktoberfest is centered on beer sampling from 6 or more local breweries, as well as 2 wine distributors. The ticket gives 6 beer or wine samples. We will have local downtown restaurants as our food vendors, and we will also have entertainment including a German style “Oktoberfest” band.

At our weekly meeting on June 26, 2015, President Elect Craig Young made an announcement about the Rotary Club of Canton's first annual "OktoberFest" scheduled for Thursday, September 17, 2015 (See story above). 

 

District Governor Phil Mariola gave a short announcement thanking the Rotary office staff Lauri/Barb for their work throughout the year.  DG Phil also presented Past President Tom Clevenger with a special RI Rotary District Service Award.

 

Club Secretary Michelle Mullaly welcomed the following guests to our meeting: Mark Cush, Pat Albacete, Charlotte Hale, Donnis Crawford, Steve Shimensky, District Governor Phil Mariola, Sherri Bianchi, Phyllis White, Dee Matthews, Susie Shearer, Enzo Fatigati, John Swanson, Jillian Perini and Ledo Perini.

 

The "Happy Bucks" news was then presented by the following Rotarians:  Suzette Matthews stated the photographer who took photo's at our Installation of Officers meeting was very grateful to all Rotarians for their warmth and hospitality they provided her; Amanda Tietze was thankful for Tom Clevenger for his wonderful term and she wished Paul White good luck in his term; Rick Taylor announced he had to cancel the 10th anniversary street party due to inclement weather conditions; Paul Feaser was very happy to announce that Past President Tom Clevenger for becoming the President of the American Heart Association.  Paul was also pleased to announce his 12 year old grandson qualified for a National golf tournament and his granddaughters 1st Birthday was the next day.
