Joel Daniel Harris is the founder and Executive Dreamer of TomTod Ideas. TomTod Ideas is a dream incubator for middle school students, helping them launch ideas centered on the common good. Born and raised in Canton, JDH is a graduate of GlenOak High School and he, his wife Joy, and nine month old daughter Everett live in Canton City School District. JDH received his Bachelor’s degree from Malone University and a Master’s degree from George Fox University in Portland, Oregon. A longtime community advocate, JDH is a graduate of Leadership Stark County and has been honored as Canton Public Educator’s Association Layperson of the Year (2014), Malone University’s Young Alumnus of the Year (2012) and as a 20under40 recipient (2015).
At the March 17, 2015, Board meeting Past President Curt Werren updated the Board on the Endowment Committee's review of a potential 100 Year Anniversary project. The Endowment Committee voted and recommended that the Rotary Club of Canton should commit One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000.00) for the naming rights on the new "Market Square" Project.
After a lengthy discussion, a Motion was made by the Board to commit $100,000.00 for naming rights on the band stand (stage) located on Market Square (Old Kresge Property). The Board then approved this Motion.
On Monday, September 28, 2015, President Paul White, Past President Tom Clevenger, Endowment Committee Chairman Curt Werren and Past District Governor Bob Pattison attended the Canton City Council meeting. At this meeting, President Paul White presented a copy of a check for $100,000.00 to the Canton City Council for seed money to get said project on the move.
There are conditions with the donation to assure the money goes to this project. If said conditions are not met, the donation will be refunded back to the Rotary Club of Canton for future projects.
Each October is the annual fund drive for the Canton Rotary Charitable Fund. As Rotarians, we all subscribe to “Service Above Self”. The annual Charitable Fund drive is a way we can all follow the Service Above Self motto. The annual drive is critical to having the funds to support our traditional local projects such as: Rotary Scouts, Philomatheon Society, Sister Rotary Club in Dominican Republic, Junior Achievement, Stark County Library, Exchange Students (inbound and outbound), Project Warm and many more. We recently have not been able to grant funds to all the worthy programs and charities that we would want to support.
I feel we are at a critical stage for our Rotary Club, a point where we need to show the community we are a valuable asset to the future growth of Canton and are an integral part of the change in Canton. One way to accomplish this is to have projects branded under Canton Rotary that are visible and recognized by the city and everyone who visits. For Canton Rotary to be able to make an impact that is permanent and branded in Canton, we need a healthy charitable fund.
I ask that each Rotarian donate to the Charitable Fund this year. While no donation is too small, we are asking that each Rotarian donate at least $100. If you cannot donate $100, please donate $25 or whatever amount you are able. Personally, I am doubling my donation from previous years, and ask everyone to do the same if possible.
We made a nice splash with our Canton Rotary Oktoberfest, let’s keep the momentum going with this year’s Canton Rotary Charitable Fund drive. Our goal this year is $15,000. Please join me in this journey so when we say we are “The Finest Rotary Club in the World” we know that each and every one of us is a part of making that claim true.
The Rotary office received an email from Ray Fete from Community Services of Stark County Inc. Ray provided information pertaining to a Retirement Roast in honor of our very own Canton Rotarian and Past President Dan Fuline. This event will be held on October 29, 2015, at LaPizzaria.

Ray states "We have an awesome slate of Roasters including Richard Regula, Janet Creighton, Mari Heege, Judge Elum and Brian Belden to name a few. I know Dan would love to see his fellow Rotarians at the event."

At our weekly meeting on September 25, 2015, President Paul White informed the members of the passing of Canton Rotarian Bob Wade.
President Paul stated he was very sorry he had to miss the "Oktoberfest" due to a work commitment. He was very pleased to hear that the event was so well received. Paul also informed the members about the wine we had purchased for the "Oktoberfest" which had not been used. Paul stated you can purchase a bottle of wine for $10.00 or four bottles for $35.00. All monies would be donated to the Canton Rotary Charitable Fund.
Club Secretary Michelle Mullaly welcomed our guests to the meeting: Mary Ann Sherer, Justin Candea, Tom Grace and Peggy Holwick.
