 Joni Close is the President of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton and has served in various roles since joining the Foundation staff in 1997.
Joni began as the Foundation’s first Program Director and initially developed and implemented its Quality Child Care Initiative, the foundation’s first strategic initiative. The Early Childhood Resource Center located on Cleveland Avenue in Canton was designed and implemented as part of that initiative.
As a result of her work in early childhood, Stark County was selected as one of eight sites for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s SPARK Initiative (Supporting Partnerships to Assure Ready Kids). Joni served as the Project Director for the $4.2 million dollar SPARK grant awarded to the Sisters of Charity Foundation from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation. In 2008 the Kellogg Foundation awarded an additional $1.5 million dollars to replicate the SPARK work in other counties. In 2013 the Foundation transitioned the SPARK program to the Early Childhood Resource Center. Joni has served on the state’s Early Childhood Advisory Council first under Governor Strickland’s administration and now serves as chair of the Council for Governor Kasich.
In her role as President, Joni is responsible for oversight of all areas of the Foundation’s grant making. Under her leadership the Foundation has been a part of many collaborative efforts focused on the poor and underserved in the areas of physical, oral, and mental health, workforce development, childhood obesity, basic needs, and education.
Joni graduated from Walsh University with a BA in Accounting and Business and has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Akron. Joni lives in Jackson Township with her husband Daryl and has two grown children, Renee and Russell.

 President Elect Paul White and his committee have been working hard on the upcoming Rotary Club of Canton's "100 Year Celebration", taking place on April 11, 2015, at the Historic Onesto.
Invitations have been sent out with all the pertinent details. Ticket prices are $60 for an individual ticket and $110 for a couples ticket.
Sponsorships are also available if you or anyone you know is interested. Platinum sponsorships are $1,000, gold sponsorships are $500 and silver sponsorships are $100 or more. Please contact Paul or the Rotary office if you are interested in sponsoring this special occasion. Your company's logo will be displayed throughout the event (we just ask that you provide the office with a jpeg of your logo).

 Don't forget about the Pancake Day and Health Screen and Wellness Fair taking place this Saturday, March 14, 2015, at McKinley High School. The Health Fair takes place from 6:30 am - 11 am and the Pancake event will run from 8 am - 1 pm. We will once again feature the "Pick Your Prize" raffle with many great prizes to chose from.
The Cleveland Indian's mascot, Slider, will be there for a meet and greet from 9 am - 11 am, the McKinley Jazz Band will play from 10-12 and the "Star Wars" characters from the Ohio Garrison of the 501st Legion and the Rebel Legion will be available to have your photo taken with them during the day.

The year was 1926-1927…”Did You Know?”
- With the Crippled Children’s Camp at Turkeyfoot Lake completed, our club budgeted $2,500 per year for maintenance of a six week camp.
- A Christmas Party was held for crippled children at the Courtland Hotel.
- The Don Mellett murder in July 1926 had its repercussions on the club program of July 16th, when E. A. McCuskey reported on the International Chamber of Commerce Meeting in Washington, D.C. Mccuskey said that event and poor publicity connected with it would set Canton back for years, and would more than offset all the constructive publicity Canton had been generating for years.
- A program high spot was the entertainment of 20 Civil War Veterans on May 28, 1926.

"Dear Rotarians of Canton, Wow! Thank you for the compassionate gift to feed the hungry in Stark County. With your donation, we are able to purchase up to 35,000 pounds of food to give to those in crisis in our community. You have made a LARGE impact.... filling bellies, providing hope, increasing self esteem...the benefits of providing food in a time of crisis for our neighbors is endless! From the 27,000 individuals we serve each month and the staff and board of the Stark County Hunger Task Force, thank you for your generosity. We are smiling ear to ear!"

 At our weekly meeting on March 5, 2015, President Tom announced the March Birthdays and he thanked February Speaker Chair, Dan Spring.
Past Presidents Dan Matthews and Mike Gregorek continued with the 100 year celebration game of knowledge. This week's contestants were Judy Lorigan, Paul Feaser and Drew Pelger. The contestants who answered correctly received a $10.00 gift certificate to Heggy's.
Club Secretary Amanda Tietze welcomed the following guests to our meeting: Shelia Mawdsley, Dee Rondinella, Greg Burlingame, Jean McFarren, Julia Shaheen and Mark Woods.
The "Happy Bucks" news was then provided by the following Rotarians: Paul White congratulated Laura Jo Hawk on her new job at Akron General; Jon Adland was happy his daughter is getting married and his son was celebrating his 35th birthday and he was welcoming his new grandchild; Dave Ewing was happy his brother acquired a job at a library; Ernie Schott was happy Taggarts had a Teen of the Month and the temperature was going to be 40 degrees this weekend; Paulla Gates announced she is down to working three days a week and she was happy to introduce her replacement, Mark Woods, into the club at the end of her year; Jim Blake just returned from Boston and the weather here is a lot better than it is there.

The Rotary Club of Wooster and Rotary District Governor Phil Mariola cordially invite you to attend the 2015 Rotary District 6650 Conference. All activities will be held at the Arden Shisler Center on the Wooster campus of The Ohio State University and the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) at 1680 Madison Avenue in Wooster, OH 44691.
We welcome early arrivals so you can explore the many shops and stores available in beautiful downtown Wooster or visit local attractions.
Friday evening will be the setting for the Governor’s Reception, Parade of Flags and Awards Banquet, featuring Ohio Wines and Beers and a variety of food stations highlighted with Certified Angus Beef® products prepared by The Wooster Inn. This event is adult only, free childcare is provided.
Saturday morning will feature the morning session and a lovely Brunch Buffet prepared by TJ’s Trio of Restaurants followed by four concurrent workshops focusing on issues that affect Rotary Clubs everywhere: Growing Membership, Marketing and the Social Media, Successful Fundraisers and Creative Programming.
After the workshops, we will have the Youth Exchange Students displays and talent show, followed by a “picnic” featuring smoked meats and barbecue provided by Buehler’s Fresh Foods.
Rotarians are encouraged to bring their children and grandchildren on Saturday. There are many family-friendly activities that will be available for those not attending the sessions and workshops. There is a special pricing for children and a kid friendly menu.
Whether you are attending or not attending the District Conference, you have the opportunity to sponsor Youth Exchange Student meals at the cost of $50 per student. We are also offering a discount for Host Families who are planning on attending the District Conference.
A beautiful setting, a program of timely topics, Wayne County’s finest caterers and the fellowship of Rotary will make this a District Conference to remember.

In Rotary, we have the opportunity to build bonds of friendship with fellow Rotarians around the world. And once a year, at our international convention, we have the chance to get together with all of our Rotary friends, to share new ideas, plan new service, and just have fun.
What better way to celebrate the end of the 2014-15 Rotary year, and Light Up Rotarywith your friends, than to travel together to the 106th annual Rotary International Convention in São Paulo, Brazil? Whether you have never been to a convention before or are an experienced convention goer, this will be one you won't want to miss. Preregistration pricing ends on 31 March, so plan now for the biggest Rotary party of the year.
The convention will begin on Saturday, 6 June, and after the opening ceremony there will be a traditional Brazilian Carnival party and a Samba School Parade at the Anhembi Sambadrome. Even if you think you have no rhythm or can't carry a tune, you will find yourself dancing, singing, and laughing all night long. The party and parade will feature the bright colors, feathers, and sequins of Carnival costumes as well as the sights and sounds of samba, the Afro-Brazilian music and dance, and the delicious food and drinks of São Paulo.

Admission to several museums in São Paulo, including the excellent soccer museum, will also be free with your convention badge.
Brazil reflects a diversity almost as great as Rotary's: Paulistanos, as the people of São Paulo are known, have created a lively culture with influences from all over the world. One of the highlights of any Rotary convention is always hospitality night, where you can get to know local Rotarians. Monday night is your chance to experience thepaulistano lifestyle with the Rotarians of Brazil – but be sure to book early, as numbers are limited.
