PRESIDENT MARK'S WEEKLY THOUGHTS

Hello Friends,

What an incredible week of weather we have had with cool nights, warm and sunny days, and the beauty of autumn in the air.  Don’t forget to take the time to enjoy the great beauty of everything that surrounds you.  It’s easy to dwell on trivial things and forget to enjoy life.  It’s fragile, enjoy it.

We had a very informational presentation at last week’s lunch from our friends at Habitat for Humanity and it looks like there will be some opportunities for us this spring to work alongside one another.  This week’s speaker is TJ Mummert from ProVia Door, and it should be equally interesting.

We had a little hiccup with taking payments at the door at last week’s lunch.  I’ve provided a list to Treasurer Tom so that you can pay for last week when you pay for this week’s lunch.  Thank you for your understanding.

I hope to see you on Friday.

WHAT'D I MISS LAST WEEK?
At our weekly meeting on Friday 11/5/21, President Mark welcomed 29 Canton Rotarians and guests, who included Plain Rotarian Mike Duggan, as well as Tim Gary and John Heck.

Becky Clark, filling in for Secretary Paula, provided these tidbits:

On this Day in History:
-1920: Law enforcement in Oklahoma arrested two men for making liquor and also confiscated the ingredients – 1 gallon of corn juice and 1 quart of gasoline.
-1952: General Dwight D. Eisenhower was elected president with the largest number of popular votes ever recorded in a Presidential election.
-1996: Bill Clinton wins a second term as President, the first Democrat to win back to back victories in 50 years. (Editor's note: no word on whether Monica voted for Bill or not!)
-2006: Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death by hanging for the massacre of 148 Shi’as in 1982.

On this Day AND a Fun Fact:
- 2011: A Canadian dentist, Michael Zuh, bought a tooth of John Lennon’s that had been removed in 1960 at an auction for the whopping sum of $31,200.

JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT "IN A DAY" AT MARLINGTON
As Junior Achievement chair for the Rotary Club of Canton, I have been staying in touch with JA about opportunities for us to 'mentor' young people through JA's programs of entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and job preparation. I have asked JA to provide volunteer opportunities in Canton City Schools primarily, but they have also communicated other volunteer needs in other districts.

Here's one at Marlington Middle School. Let me know if you're interested in helping:
