Georgia Paxos was born and raised in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. Georgia is a graduate of George Mason University, where she majored in Communications and received a minor in International Relations. Georgia moved to Canton in July 2003 after marrying Canton native, Mike Paxos. She was hired as the Executive Director of the Canton Palace Theatre in July 2007. Under her direction, the Theatre has increased its attendance, offered more diverse programming and most recently completed a $1.35 million Capital Campaign, its first campaign since 1991.

Georgia is a graduate of the 26^th Class of Leadership Stark County and sits on the Arts in Stark 2020 Vision Tourism Committee and Operating Grantees committee, ystark Executive Committee, Canton Film Fest committee and the Leadership Stark County Alumni Committee. Georgia was recognized in 2014 as a ystark! Twenty Under 40 and an About Magazine Downtown Mover and Shaker in 2013. She is a member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church and serves as the advertising co-chair for the Canton Greek Fest. Georgia, her husband and two sons live in North Canton.

It is with great pleasure we announce the Rotary Club of Canton's 100th anniversary celebration! This event will be held at the beautiful Historic Onesto in downtown Canton. The date is Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 6 PM.

Celebrating any 100th birthday is a very big milestone! This will be a wonderful opportunity to invite potential new Rotarians to an event which will not only showcase an organization providing 100 years worth of "Service Above Self" to its community, but will also provide an opportunity to experience a bit of Canton history, the former Onesto Hotel.

Here is an excerpt taken from a Rotary Club of Canton bulletin dated May 19, 1915, entitled The How, When and Why of Rotary in Canton... "Back in late October, 1914, seven business and professional men, at the suggestion of the Secretary of the International Association of Rotary Clubs, assembled at Bender's Hof Brau Has to consider the advisability of organizing a Rotary Club. It was the consensus of opinions that the City of Canton, with its diversified interests, should and ought to have a Rotary Club."

Promoting and attending this 100 year celebration event is an honor for each and every Canton Rotarian. Let us all take pride in a 100 years of "Service Above Self"!

Sign-up sheets will be available during the Friday meetings to volunteer for the Annual Pancake Breakfast. This year's event will take place on Saturday, March 14, 2015.

Take a minute to look at your calendar and block some time off on that day to volunteer for the Rotary Club of Canton's largest fundraiser. We will need volunteers for set-up on Friday, March 13th (immediately following our regular Rotary meeting) or during the two shifts on 'Pancake Saturday'.

Youth Exchange Chairperson, Amy Mustafaga, is asking Rotarians to consider opening their home to our current Youth Exchange Student, Gui Guilherme Morgado. Gui is attending North Canton Hoover High School. Amy states we would need a Host family for just a couple months to get Gui through this school year.

If are interested in helping this young man or if you know of someone who would be interested in becoming a Host family, please contact Amy Mustafaga at (330) 837-4555 or the Rotary office at (330) 452-2882.

Please mark your calendar for Saturday, March 14, 2015, for the Rotary Club of Canton's Annual Pancake Breakfast, Pick Your Prize Raffle AND Health Screening Events! This year's event will once again be held at McKinley High School. The Pancake Breakfast will include: Pancakes, Sausage, Orange Juice, Coffee and Milk.

Please note: Chairperson Dean Wallace and his committee have decided to offer an incentive to other charitable groups to sell tickets to our Pancake Breakfast! These groups will be paid $2.00 for every ticket they sell! So, if you have a church group, Scout troop, sports team, or favorite charity that would like to earn a little extra money, please let Dean know. Information and sign up sheets will be available at this week's meeting.

A Pick Your prize Raffle will be displayed with many wonderful items to choose from! You can purchase tickets the day of the event and then decide what prizes you want to win by placing your ticket(s) into the corresponding bag in front of the item you are interested in. You will not need to be present to win.

The breakfast and raffle combine to make the Rotary's largest fundraiser and help fund our many local charitable efforts through the year, including:

Foster Parenting
Rotary Youth Exchange program
Interact Club
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
Junior Achievement In a Day

Rotary Club of Canton…Did you know?

The formation of our club was authorized by Chesley R. Perry, Secretary of Rotary International, in 1914. We received our charter with 28 members on April 1, 1915, 100 years ago.

The first two organizational meetings were held at Bender’s Hof Brau Has and the first preliminary meeting was held at the Cortland Hotel. A.E. Mitzel was elected the first President and C.R. McClean became the first Vice President.

Initiation fees were set at $5.00 and yearly dues were $15.00.

Current member Tim Franta is the grandson of Charter member John A. Franta (Signs).

Some of our club’s signature projects or accomplishments include:

In our early years the emphasis was on helping crippled children. Camps were built at Turkeyfoot with the Akron Rotary and also at Lake Cable. We actively supported the Boy Scouts and YMCA as helping youth has always been a priority for Canton Rotarians.
Vocational Service has always been prominent with our club as we hosted Career Days for students to visit club members at their place of business. We sponsor annual Four-Way Speech Contests, Rotary Youth Leadership Activities (RYLA), JA Done In-A-Day, and Character Counts.
Our cub supports the local Community as many members serve as volunteer board members in local non-profit organizations. We sponsor local Handicapped Scout Troops, support the Philomathean Society, established the “Rotary Park” adjacent to the First Ladies Library and we support local Literacy programs.
Internationally we send and receive Youth Exchange students, sponsor an Interact Club, host and lead Group Study Exchange Teams, donated an ambulance and medical supplies to San Pedro, DR, as well as support many other international projects related to clean water, education, and health.

Over the years our club has sponsored eight (8) new Rotary Clubs, including: Minerva (1923), Orrville (1923), Louisville (1925), North Canton (1939), Perry Township (1973), Canton South (1983), Plain Township (1985) and East Canton (1988).

Ten Canton Rotarians have served as District Governor: Joe Markley (1925), Ray Kasper (1939), Riz Hostetler (1955), Gerv Brady (1958), Stew Witham (1966), Stan Ewing (1975), Jack Maxwell (1982), Joe Guenther (1991), Dave Ewing (1996) and Bob Pattisson (2008).

The Rotary Club of Canton continues to “Strive for Excellence…in all that we think, say and do” as “The Finest Rotary Club in the World!”

At our weekly meeting on February 5, 2015, President Tom Clevenger recognized the members who are celebrating February birthdays. President Tom also thanked January speaker chair Ernie Schott for the outstanding speakers he provided last month.

Dean Wallace stepped to the podium and updated the members on the Pancake Breakfast. He stated that tickets will be going out in the mail next week. If your club or organization is interested in selling tickets to this event, they will receive a portion of the sale of each ticket. Flyers were on the table for this new endeavor. Dean also stated that sign-up sheets were available for anyone interested in volunteering.

President Elect Paul White was excited to announce that our club's 100 Year Celebration will be held on April 11, 2015 at the beautifully restored Historic Onesto in downtown Canton. More details will be forthcoming, but please SAVE THE DATE!

Club Secretary Amanda Tiezte welcomed the following guests to our meeting: Kitty Burgett, Tianna Vozar, Kaitlin Brown, Kaleb Brumbaugh, Antonio Imperati, Sue Feaser, Devin Faiella and Toni Cotopolis.

The "Happy Bucks" news was then provided by the following Rotarians: Bruce Schorsten asked everyone to keep his wife, Marsha, in their prayers, as she had fallen on the ice and broke her shoulder; Tim Franta watched the Superbowl and said the losing coach was worse than the Browns; Amanda Tietze was happy her son, Christian, was recommended for Project Lead the Way Engineering program at Perry High School.
