During the weekly meeting on Friday, November 10, 2017, President Amanda Tietze welcomed the 58 members and 3 guests to the meeting. With sadness, President Amanda informed the members about the passing of longtime Rotarian John DeWees. John passed away after his short battle with cancer. She asked everyone to take a minute and sign the sympathy card for John's wife, Lori. Amanda stated that an email would be sent to members with funeral arrangements, once details are released by John's family.
 
Past President Dan Matthews gave the Invocation.
 
Secretary Suzette Matthews then welcomed the following guests to the meeting: Joe Albert (speaker); Jason Hostetler (guest of Ernie Schott); Bill Marsden (potential new member).
 
The "Happy News" was then provided by the following:
  • PP Denny Fulmer - in recognition of Adrian Allison's participation in the Canton Palace Theatre's 'Dancing with the Stark Stars' fundraiser on November 11, 2017;
  •  
  • PP Virginia Neutzling - in thanks and recognition of all our United States military veterans and their service for our country;
  •  
  • PP Craig Young - in celebration and recognition of the successful completion of the Canton Rotary's and Habitat for Humanity's Pocket Park Project;
  •  
  • Bruce Schorsten - in encouragement of Rotarians to participate in our Salvation Army Bell Ringing project and for Rotarians to join together to sing on December 1, 2017 from 10 am - 12 pm during the bell ringing at Buehlers in Jackson Township;
  •  
  • PP Paul White - in thanks for Issue 2 being voted down;
  •  
  • Suzette Matthews - in recognition of her spouse, Dan Matthews, presenting a special invocation that he wrote himself;
  •   -  Suzette also honored the memory of fellow Rotarian, John DeWees, who truly exemplified "Service Above Self"
  •  
  • Robert Matthews - in encouragement for all Rotarians to promote and attend the Health & Wellness Event on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at Mercy Hall Auditorium from 7 am - 11 am.
President Elect Michelle Mullaly then informed the members that the Canton Rotary Charitable Fund Drive is underway. The funds raised from the Charitable Fund Drive will help the club pay for local and international projects for the upcoming Rotary year. Michelle indicated that she is not placing a total dollar amount for the club to reach, but instead is just asking that each and every Rotarian donate something. Any monetary amount, whether large or small, will be appreciated. (*See story above).
 
PDG/PP Dave Ewing then provided a very meaningful presentation recognizing the Rotarians who have served in the United States Military. A few Veterans were asked to provide insight into their service experience.
 
President Amanda then presented the members with the newly elected Board of Trustee members and Officers for the 2018-2019 Rotary year. President Amanda asked for a motion to approve the candidates, which was provided by PP Dan Matthews and seconded by PP Scott Sandrock (*See story above to review the incoming Board).
 
November Speaker Chair Tim Franta introduced the speaker for the meeting, Joe Albert, owner of Joe Albert Studios.
