Hillel International

This week’s speaker is Ronit Sherwin, who serves on the senior leadership team for Hillel International as a campus support director.  She will be speaking primarily about how Jewish college students are navigating the recent turmoil in and around Israel as it presents itself on campus.

Ronit is a Cleveland native and graduated from the Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in education.  She then spent a year in Israel on Project Otzma (a volunteer/service program for young Jewish adults.). Ronit went on to complete a master’s degree in Theological Studies at Harvard Divinity School.  Ronit’s long career in Jewish communal service includes many years in the Jewish Community Center movement as a Jewish educator, as well as the very proud founding Executive Director of Nishmah: The St. Louis Jewish Women’s Project.  She has also served as the Executive Director of the Kristol Center for Jewish Life at the University of Delaware and subsequently as the CEO of the Jewish Federation of San Antonio, Texas.

Hillel International is a 101-year-old organization serving more than 140,000 students annually at 850 colleges and universities around the world. Its purpose is to inspire every Jewish college student to enrich the Jewish people and the world.  Each college’s Hillel varies in size and scope depending upon location and population size.  Ronit is the campus liaison for several public universities in Ohio and Texas.  Her role is to help each college’s organization succeed, coaching local directors, mentoring lay leaders, and interacting with college officials.

Ronit lives in Jackson with her husband, Rabbi David Komerofsky, and twin high-school students Batya and Natan.
