The Rotary Club of Canton will be collecting children's books THIS FRIDAY, which will be taken by President-Elect Michelle Mullaly to Downtown Columbus on March 9 -10th to the All-Ohio P.E.T.S. (Presidents-Elect Training Seminar). In an email dated February 15, 2018, District Governor Elect Scott Schulick issued the following email to all incoming Presidents-Elect in District 6650.A book is a dream that you hold in your hand!
"The Ohio District Governors-Elect are very excited to announce that we are holding a friendly competitive service project amongst Districts at All-Ohio P.E.T.S. this year. We will be collecting children’s picture books (and other books) that will be shipped to Rotary District 3450 – Mongolia. These books will then be translated from English to Mongolian by local private high school students. The students make sticker tapes that are placed in the books with the Mongolian translation. A portion of the books collected will be translated into Braille the same way. The translated books will then be distributed to school children in rural Mongolia by both Ohio and Mongolian Rotarians.
We are asking each of the Presidents-Elect to collect children’s books in your local area and bring them to All-Ohio P.E.T.S.
What we are looking for: Children’s picture books (Although we prefer picture books, we will accept all children’s books that are appropriate for school aged children kindergarten – High School.)
New and gently used, please!
Now, for the best part…I mentioned that this is a friendly competitive service project! Help me make District 6650 proud by bringing lots of books. The District that brings the most books, will be awarded the All-Ohio P.E.T.S. Service Above Self Championship Cup! Let’s bring home the shiny hardware! Books, Books, Books!"
