On Tuesday, August 27, 2019, the City of Canton is planning a groundbreaking ceremony for the newly designed Canton Centennial Plaza, to be built in the greenspace (the old Kresge location) at Market Square. This once-in-a-lifetime project by the city is designed to recognize and commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the birth of the National Football League.

The impetus for this civic improvement project was a $100,000 contribution from the Canton Rotary Club Endowment Fund to the City of Canton.  These monies were used for the conceptual design of the space. This contribution was made as a commitment to the city, in honor of our Rotary Club of Canton's 100th anniversary in 2015.  After several years of designing, planning, and fund-raising, this project is about to become a reality!

A number of local leaders will be attending the kick-off event, including Mayor Thomas Bernabei, State Senator Kirk Schuring, and David Baker, CEO of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The event will be held at the current greenspace location, at Market Avenue North between 3rd and 4th Streets NW.  Following the groundbreaking ceremony, there will be a reception at the Canton Brewing Company, owned by Canton Rotarian Dave Beule.  Come on out and celebrate this important civic event.
