Paul P. Harris formed the first Service organization (Rotary) in Chicago on February 23, 1905.  As the idea of “Service Above Self” spread around the world, communities not served by Rotary were identified and new clubs were formed by existing clubs.  This involved identifying leaders in those growing communities and helping those leaders start a new Rotary Club to serve that community, to exchange ideas and take action.  These Rotary Clubs have since flourished and are an integral part of those communities.
