During the meeting on September 6, 2019, President Mark Rojek welcomed 58 members and 6 guests to the meeting. President Mark asked anyone celebrating a September birthday to please stand and be recognized. *Thank you to the Event Center for providing the brownies!
 
Rotarian Frank Fleischer gave the VERY brief invocation (God bless you, Frank!).
 
The greeters for the meeting were Brad Carpenter and Amanda Sainato.
 
Past President John Werren once again volunteered at the Attendance table.
 
Congratulations to Rotarian Jon Adland for having the winning 50/50 ticket worth $22.00.
 
Secretary Julia Dick welcomed the following guests to the meeting: Congressman Bob Gibbs (speaker); Don Mullen (Stark State College); Tim Ross (Congressman Gibbs' District Director); Richard Regula (Massillon Rotarian); John Street (Girard/Liberty Rotarian); Andrew Rowles (guest of Raquel Raderchak).
 
Johnny Street presented a certificate to the Rotary Club of Canton for our support of Rotaplast. Rotaplast International, Inc. is committed to helping children and families worldwide by eliminating the burden of cleft lip and/or palate, burn scarring, and other deformities. Working with local professionals, Rotarians, and other organizations, Rotaplast sends multidisciplinary medical teams to provide free reconstructive surgery, ancillary treatment, and training for the comprehensive care of these children. Rotaplast supports education and research towards prevention of cleft lip and/or palate. Our aim is to help local professionals build sustainable models for the care of these children, improving their lives and those of their families.
 
Oktoberfest Co-Chair Raquel Raderchak reminded everyone that the Oktoberfest event is coming up quickly.......Thursday 9/19/19! The year long planning for this event is in its final stages. We can use everyone's helping hands. If you would like to volunteer to help at the event (and get a very stylish, collectible tee shirt) please see PP Amanda Tietze. There are plenty of areas still in need of volunteers. The event runs from 4 PM to 9 PM, although volunteer shifts will be shorter. Help is also needed before the start time for set-up and after for tear-down. 
 
President Mark provided an update on the Centennial Plaza groundbreaking ceremony which took place on Tuesday, August 27th.
 
Vice President Mark Clendenin introduced the speaker for the meeting, Congressman Bob Gibbs. The Congressman presented an update from Washington D.C. with emphasis on local issues.
 
President Mark concluded the meeting with the following announcements:
  • next week's speaker will be Gerry Radcliffe, co-author of "African Americans of Canton, Ohio";
  • Canton Rotary will host the upcoming 'pep rally' meeting with Massillon Rotary hte day before the annual Canton McKinley Bulldogs vs. Massillon Tigers football game. If you have any ideas or suggestions on how to make this event memorable, please contact Vice President Mark Clendenin.
  • mark your calendar for these upcoming events: Oktoberfest on September 19th and Health Screen & Wellness on November 2nd.
