At the June 1, 2018 Rotary meeting, President Amanda Tietze welcomed the 60 members and 8 guests to the meeting. President Amanda asked everyone to keep Rotarian Tom Franta and his family in their thoughts and prayers. Tom passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. President Amanda then thanked Speaker Chair Don Peterson for his outstanding speakers for the month of May.
 
Rotarian David Roberts gave the Invocation. Rotarian Becky Clark gave the Rotofact.
 
Secretary Suzette Matthews welcomed the following guests to the meeting: Rabbi John Spitzer (guest of Frank Fleischer); Robert Mylo (guest of Becky Clark); Maureen Ater (guest of speaker Anne Richards); Carol Risaliti and John Orr (guests of David Roberts); Lauri Molnar (guest/wife of Jim Molnar); Lisa Osterhage (guest of PP Craig Young); Brad Carpenter (guest of Julia Dick).
 
The "Happy News" was provided by the following:
  • Frank Fleischer - to introduce Rabbi John Spitzer who proudly announced that he and his wife will be celebrating 50 years of marriage;
  •   -  the Rabbi also asked everyone to see him after the meeting to learn about a petition for a ballot initiative he is supporting.
  •  
  • Paul Hervey - to celebrate surviving his daughter's graduation party and to celebrate the Perry High School Girls Softball team's success this year;
  •  
  • Paul Feaser - to celebrate his grandson's recent 1st place win at a golf competition at Avalon Lake
  •   -  also to celebrate his granddaughter's graduation from Hudson High School and the success of her rugby team;
  •  
  • Becky Clark - to celebrate her grandson arriving home safely after his time as an Exchange Student in Germany;
  •  
  • Shawn Dougherty - to celebrate his daughter graduating law school and now studying for the Bar;
  •  
  • Dave Schrade - to celebrate the Cavs' success (even though they lost in OT) and to wish them luck in the upcoming games;
  •  
  • President Elect Michelle Mullaly - to celebrate her middle son's graduation from high school and his plans to attend Baldwin Wallace this fall.
PP Dan Matthews took to the podium to welcome and introduce the newest member to the Rotary Club of Canton, Paul Hervey. (*See story above)
 
PP Craig Young made an announcement regarding the upcoming Canton Rotary Oktoberfest, which will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018. PP Craig relayed there were sponsorship forms on the tables.
 
President Amanda concluded the meeting with the following announcements:
  • if you have not already done so, please sign the sympathy card for the family of Tom Franta;
  •  
  • next week's meeting will be the fellowship meeting in conjunction with the Greek Orthodox Festival; 
  •  
  • details regarding next week's meeting...i.e. food purchase, location of fellowship gathering, etc. will be provided to each member by email and Rotogram next week;
  •  
  • there will be a brief Oktoberfest meeting as well as Golf meeting for committee members as well as anyone who would like to volunteer for these annual events.
The following Rotarians will receive a makeup for attending the Oktoberfest committee meeting on June 1, 2018: PP Craig Young, President Amanda Berkeley, Frank Fleischer, Jeff Scott, Becky Clark, Bruce Hale, Don Peterson and PP Paul White.
 
The following Rotarians will receive a makeup for attending the Golf committee meeting on June 1, 2018:  Bill Liber, Dave Schrade, PP Dan Matthews, Secretary Suzette Matthews, Shawn Dougherty, Nick Perini, Julia Dick, PP Jack Barkan, James Boggs, Bruce Schorsten, PP Paul White and President Amanda Tietze.
