At the August 16, 2019 meeting, President Mark Rojek welcomed 48 members and 4 guests to the meeting. President Mark welcomed back Rotarian Terri Barry who had been out on medical leave.
Rotarian Theresa Blocher gave the Invocation.
Congratulations to Rotarian Don Sultzbach for holding the winning 50/50 ticket worth $36.00!
The greeters for the meeting were Sam Shaheen and Jennie George.
Thank you to past Rotarian Jack Brannen for filling in and playing the piano for the meeting.
President Elect Drew Pelger and Past President John Werren helped work the Attendance table.
Rotarian Bruce Hale filled in for traveling Secretary Julia Dick. Bruce welcomed the following guests to the meeting: Adam Zorn (speaker); Debbie Zorn and Darlene Reese (guests of President Mark Rojek); Jack Brannen (guest of Club).
The "Happy News" was provided by the following:
- PP Amanda Tietze - She was very happy to welcome her new puppy, Penny, to the family. Amanda says she now has a Penny to go with her Sheldon (i.e "The Big Bang Theory").
- Amy Mustafaga - happy to say the newest Youth Exchange student group has arrived. They will be at Camp Stambaugh this weekend for orientation;
- Suzette Matthews - had a great time at the Akron Rubberducks game. She asked President Mark to re-enact the "First Pitch" he made at the game;
- Paul Hervey - was pleased his daughter went back to school in Cincinnati and that both his girls got along during the summer months;
Oktoberfest Chairman Raquel Raderchak updated everyone on the upcoming fundraiser scheduled for Thursday, September 19, 2019. She stated she had been in the lobby prior to the start of the meeting asking for volunteers. She also informed the members it was not too late to become a sponsor for the event.
President Mark introduced the speaker for the meeting, Adam Zorn, a Mount Union Arborist. Adam spoke on the research and education at the Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center.
President Mark concluded the meeting with the following announcements:
- next week's meeting will be the Club Assembly. He would like everyone to please attend this meeting, as he has some things planned that you may find interesting and beneficial for the Club;
- another reminder the Oktoberfest event is taking place on Thursday, September 19, 2019. Tickets are available for purchase and volunteers and sponsors are still needed.
The following Rotarians will receive a makeup for attending the Oktoberfest meeting held on Wednesday, August 14, 2019: Raquel Raderchak, Paula Mastroianni, PP Rick Taylor, Bob Matthews and Alex Dowell.
The following Rotarians will receive a makeup for attending the Akron Rubberducks fellowship night out in support of President Mark Rojek throwing out the "First Pitch": PP Dan Matthews, Suzette Matthews, President Mark Rojek, Vice President Drew Pelger, President Elect Mark Clendenin, Steve Fettman, and Bruce Schorsten.
The following Rotarians will receive a makeup for participating in the Plain Township Rotary Golf Outing on Friday, August 16, 2019: PP Rick Taylor, Dave Schrade, PP Fritz Spring, President Elect Mark Clendenin, Tony Pierce, Bill Liber, and Greg Luntz.
