1953 – Elvis Presley turned 18 and fulfilled his patriotic duty, and legal obligation, to register his name with the Selective Service System, making himself eligible for the draft.
1954 –The first color TV went on sale. The set had a 15-inch screen and was sold for $1000, which would be worth $7,850 in today’s money.
1965 - Martin Luther King, Jr., and other civil rights activists completed their march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama.
1989 – The Exxon Valdez crashes, causing one of the worst oil spills in history.
1995 – WikiWikiWeb, the world's first user-editable website, is launched by Ward Cunningham. Today, Wikipedia is the world's most well-known and widely used wiki.
Fun Fact:
2017 - The world’s largest banana split was made in Innisfail, Australia. The feat was achieved with the use of 40,000 bananas and was five miles long. No word on whether they used internationally famous Taggart's Ice Cream!
