FORMER CONGRESSMAN JIM RENACCI TO SPEAK FRIDAY, MARCH 1ST
Jim grew up in a working class, union family in western Pennsylvania—his father was a railroad worker and his mother was a nurse. He was the first in his family to graduate from college and paid his own way through school by working a wide range of jobs, including as a truck driver, a mechanic and on a road crew. In 1980 he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

After graduating college, Jim became a Certified Public Accountant and went to work for Grant Thornton in Pittsburgh, specializing in their health care accounting practice. In 1983, Jim left Pittsburgh for Wadsworth, Ohio, where he founded LTC Management Services, a company that owned, operated and managed nursing facilities throughout the region. Jim also founded a CPA firm in 1989, along with several other business ventures. Throughout his 30-year business career Jim owned and operated over 60 entities, created more than 1,500 jobs and employed over 3,000 people.

He spent five years as a volunteer firefighter in Wadsworth, served on the city’s Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and was later elected to two terms as President of the City Council. In 2004, Jim was elected Mayor of Wadsworth, where he successfully balanced the city’s $80 million dollar budget and converted a multi-million dollar deficit into a surplus, without raising taxes.

Jim Renacci was elected to the United States House of Representatives in November of 2010, representing the 16th district of Ohio.  In 2017, Jim announced his intention to run for the Republican nomination for governor of Ohio in the 2018 election; in January of 2018 Jim exited the governor’s race and announced his run for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senator.

Jim completed his final term in Congress in January 2019 and that same month launched the non-profit Ohio’s Future Foundation, a policy and action-oriented organization of which he is the founder and chairman.

Outside of his work in the business world and public service, Jim and his wife Tina have raised three children and currently reside in Wadsworth, Ohio.  Jim is a faithful member of his local Parish and has ushered in Mass for over twenty years.

APPOINTMENT OF 2019-2020 CLUB SECRETARY
During the February 22, 2019 Rotary meeting, President Michelle Mullaly informed the members that current Club Secretary Suzette Matthews would be resigning her post at the end of the 2018-2019 Rotary year. Suzette's job will now entail more traveling which will, unfortunately, not allow her to perform the duties of the position she has grown to love. Stepping into Suzette's "secretarial" shoes will be Rotarian Julia Dick.

President Michelle asked for a motion to appoint Julia Dick as the 2019-2020 club Secretary. A motion was made by PP Craig Young and seconded by PP Amanda Tietze.

Julia's duties will consist of maintaining all records of the club and performing such duties as usually pertains to this office.

Thank you Suzette for your 3 wonderful years of service to the Rotary Club of Canton as Club Secretary! Your genuine enthusiasm and humor at the mic, your interaction with the members to involve them in the Rotafact announcements, and your skill at meeting and greeting each guest and making them feel welcomed at each meeting is an inspiration to all of us.

HELP CANTON WIN THE JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT ROTARY BOWL-A-THON CHALLENGE!
A truly stellar (?) crew of Canton Rotarians have volunteered to compete in this year's Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon Rotary Challenge. The winner of the Rotary Challenge will be the team that 1) raises the most money via pledges and 2) knocks down the most pins this Saturday, March 2nd, at Park Centre Lanes!

While you are welcome to come to the lanes from 1 to 3 PM to cheer on your brave volunteers (or to bowl, as we could use one or two more bowlers), you can be most helpful by making a donation to Junior Achievement in the name of our Canton Rotary Challenge Team.

There are two ways to do so:

  1) Go to this link and make a credit card donation to JA that will be credited to our Rotary Bowl-A-Thon  Team:

  -2) Give your pledge/donation to one of these intrepid Canton Rotary bowlers:
     * President-Elect Mark Rojek
     * Vice-President Drew Pelger
     * PP Dan Matthews (who is bringing a 'ringer', er.. a 'mystery bowler')
     * Shawn Dougherty
     * James Boggs
     * PP Rick Taylor

THANKS!

And if you happen to be interested in bowling, please reach out SOON to Rick Taylor at 330-575-2870 or rickt@kozmosgrille.com
