A NEW REGULAR MEETING SITE! STARTS FRIDAY!
We have a NEW permanent location for our Friday luncheon meetings!

Hey, we're be back in Beautiful Downtown Canton this Friday 8/13/21!

We will now be at the historic Christ Presbyterian Church at 530 Tuscarawas Street West, right across Tusc from McKinley High School Downtown Campus (the old Timken High).

Access to their mobility-friendly parking lot on the west side of the building is off of 2nd Street SW, from McKinley Avenue S. The building entrance is the middle door on the parking lot side. Meeting room is at the top of the stairs and, should you care to use it, there is an elevator just inside the entrance. (Please let President Mark know if you think you might need help navigating to the meeting that day.)

Meals will be provided by our old friend Terry from Mr. Mike's Catering. As you may remember, they always served us great food when we were across the street from Tim's Tavern.

WE ASK YOU TO PLEASE GO TO THIS LINK TO MAKE A RESERVATION FOR THE MEETING TODAY OR TOMORROW (no payment is necessary when reserving). THIS ALLOWS US TO HAVE AN ACCURATE COUNT FOR THE CATERER SO WE ARE NOT OVERPAYING FOR MEALS! Payment options will be available at the meeting. If you need help using the Eventbrite site, please contact President Mark: https://www.eventbrite.com/o/the-rotary-club-of-canton-ohio-18781258928

PLEASE NOTE: We could use some help with at least this first meeting at CPC. Please see President Mark's comments in his article above. Thanks!

THE LATEST FROM PRESIDENT MARK!
Donor Wall 2.jpg

I’m outside working in what might be the best office I’ve ever worked in. The sun is shining, the sky is a beautiful blue, and I can hear lovely music from the wind chimes. I encourage you to take a moment and truly appreciate all that has gone well and what a blessing it is to be able to share it with each other. You are all very special.

This week on August 13, 2021, we start back to regular lunch meetings at the Christ Presbyterian Church. I hope many of you will be able to join us. We will even have Bill Sparks at the piano. Register online using the Eventbrite link here, the one I’ve sent you or give the information to our outreach group and they can help you register.  If you need help, just reach out to me.

The commemorative plaque is now installed at Centennial Plaza and I encourage you to swing by and check it out.  It is beautiful.  Thanks to everyone that helped make this happen.

Finally, we got the approval for our India collaborative International Project from RI.  A big “Thank You”  to Dan Fuline, Virginia Neutzling, and PDG Meena Patel for doing the hard work here. We took the lead on this collaborative project that provides oxygen concentrators and partnered with The Rotary Club of Wai India, The Plain Township Rotary, The Akron Rotary and The Cortland Rotary Club

Have a wonderful week.

Mark Clendenin, President

'OLD' NEWS - LAST WEEK'S MEETING
For our last 'impromptu' meeting at John's Bar (thanks to them for hosting us), President Mark welcomed 22 Canton Rotarians on-site, plus 3 more on Zoom. Wilbur Allen, making a grand entrance when his cue was given, provided the invocation.

Secretary Paula Mastroianni welcomed three guests: Brent Watts and his son, recently relocated to Canton from Houston, TX, where Brent was a Rotarian (we hope he becomes a Canton Rotarian!); and Rudy Sierra, guest of Bruce Hale.

Also from Paula:

This day in history:

· 1787 - Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia begins debate on the first draft of the Constitution.

· 1926 – American Gertrude Ederle (20) becomes first woman to swim English Channel in 14 hours, 39 minutes, a record for male or female.

· 1945 – The Atomic Bomb was dropped on Hiroshima

· 1965 – US President Lyndon B. Johnson signs the Voting Rights Act prohibiting voting discrimination against minorities.

· 1965 – Tim Berners-Lee releases files describing his idea for the World Wide Web. WWW debuts as a publicly available service on the Internet.

Bizarre Fact

Today is Wiggle Your Toes Day, the perfect day to let your 10 bottom digits break free from their bondage and see the light of day!

Happy Bucks were offered by Becky Clark, Sam Shaheen, President Mark, Wilbur Allen, and Rick Taylor.

Our own member, Darin Nissley, provided a great presentation about he and his wife's own organization, Lighthouse Ministries, where they provide many opportunities for young people in the southeast area of Canton. Thank you, Darin!

President Mark's comments:

  • Traditional lunches resuming 8/13/21.  We have guaranteed 30 lunches to the caterer for each week in August.  Reservations can be made through Eventbrite.  If you have trouble with this please call President Mark
  • Abridged financial statements were sent to all club members this week to keep you up to date.
  • Oktoberfest is a no-go for this year due to timing and pending COVID issues.  Hoping for next year.
  • Rick urged members to be active in reading the Rotogram.  Plenty of weekly information there.
