TOMORROW! REPRESENTATIVES FROM OUR INTERACT CLUBS TO GIVE AN UPDATE!
This Friday, we will have representatives from our two Interact Clubs join us to share with us the great projects and activities their clubs have been working on this year and what is upcoming for the remaining school year.

Our Early College Interact representatives are Carmen Morales and Secora Jones.  From the McKinley Interact club,  Mariah McClain and Aubriana Schoenfelt will join us.

Per the Rotary International website, Interact clubs bring together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. Students learn  how serious leadership can be seriously fun.

The Rotary Club of Canton has been very involved in supporting Interact in the Canton City School District, with VP Jennie George leading the charge the last two years.

We encourage you to come down to our meeting tomorrow and hear these exceptional young leaders and learn one thing our club is doing to support our local youth.

Weight-Loss Challenge

September to February -

Which Paul Will You See In February?????

Help motivate President-Elect Paul Hervey to lose weight while helping to raise money for the Charitable Fund (note: this is our Annual Charitable Fund Drive!) Your donation depends upon how much weight Hervey loses. (Hint: he could stand to lose a lot!)

Bonus: If we raise $20,000, Past Presidents Mark Clendenin and Drew Pelger have volunteered to take the Polar Bear Plunge in February!

Let’s work together to make it happen! You can fill out and return this form or send in your pledge to Paul (paul@hervey.co, 330-704-2935).
Thank you in advance for your wonderful support.

HEADS UP! A NEW MEETING SCHEDULE STARTS FEBRUARY!
“Change is inevitable. Growth is optional.” - John C. Maxwell

As most of you know, our Rotary Club of Canton, as well as many Rotary Clubs in North America, is shrinking. Once, we had a membership of around 300 members; we are now down to fewer than 100. Of course, size is not the 'end-all-be-all', but we also all know that with more members comes more resources, more energy, more opportunity to fulfill our mission as Rotarians: to improve our community and our world and to enjoy each other's company while we do that.

As you may also have observed, our attendance at our regular Friday meetings is also very low, averaging 30 or less attendees each week. This in spite of the fact that we've had some excellent speakers and programs.

With all this in mind, your Executive Committee and Board of Trustees have had some discussion as to what we can do to try to reverse these trends and to 1) recruit new members who will be active and 2) provide the opportunity for current members who have not been attending meetings to get together.

One of the things that your officers have decided is to

CHANGE UP THE MEETING SCHEDULE

Starting in February,

* ON THE 1ST & 3RD FRIDAYS OF EACH MONTH WE WILL HAVE OUR REGULAR FRIDAY MEETINGS
@ Christ Presbyterian Church at 11:45 AM

* ON THE 2ND & 4TH WEDNESDAYS OF THE MONTH, WE WILL HAVE AN EVENING MEETING FROM 5 TO 6 PM
AT THE CONESTOGA ROOM, lower level of the Onesto Hotel & Lofts on 2nd Street NW.
(No meeting on those Fridays).

- These evening meetings will start with social/fellowship time, followed by a brief Rotary "business" portion.
- Families will be welcome and encouraged.
- All are welcome to stay later if they choose.
- Visitors, prospective members, Rotarians from other clubs are all encouraged to attend.
Food and drink is optional and paid by each individual (off menu).
Canton Rotary committees are encouraged to possibly hold meetings around these Wednesday meetings, with a goal to get more people involved.

(On any 5th weeks of a month with no pre-scheduled meeting, then special programs, social events, off-site meetings, or service opportunities will be planned.)

Here is a link to Frequently Asked Questions about this change of meeting schedules:

Here is a link to a calendar showing the new schedule:

We will be very intentional at informing all members of each week's meeting schedule until everyone can get used to it. You can help by contacting any of your fellow Rotarians on a regular basis to let them know when and where the meeting is each week. And, of course, any questions, you can contact President Rick, VP Jennie George, PP Drew Pelger, or any of our officers or board members.

Beyond this step of a meeting schedule change, Past President Karen Brenneman will be leading an effort starting this month for us to complete a strategic/long term plan in order to address our concerns about Canton Rotary 'losing it's mojo'! At some point soon, we will ask for your open and honest input on your opinion of our club and how it might be improved. I encourage you all to start thinking about that now, and discuss it with your fellow members.

TRINKETS & TRASH......ER, SWAG....NEEDED FOR RYLA GOODIE BAGS!

(Note from President Rick: Please see this note re: the RYLA Conference this year. Representatives from our two Interact Clubs will be participating and, as a club, we'd like to support this event. Please consider contributing any promotional material from you business if appropriate that you think a teenager might like. If you can do so, please let me or Jennie George know what you will be donating, so we can decide if we want to enhance the "goodies" out of our club budget. Thanks!)

As we reboot the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) Conference for 2023, we invite all Rotarians in District 6650 to contribute to the "Goody Bags" the students attending the conference will receive.  Our Goody Bags are not unlike the "swag bags" you may have received when attending a conference or event.

Our Goody Bags, though, are made up of items from Rotarians and their businesses.

What are we looking for?  Promotional items from your business for each participant!

Remember:
These bags are for 16-17 year olds.  They like pens and mechanical pencils, highlighters, post-it notes, key chains, small toys,  playing cards, Frisbees, fast food coupons, gum, candy bars, etc.
 - Please NO political giveaways.  We will not use them.

- Please NO CAFFEINE snacks or drinks.  We cannot distribute them for safety reasons.

- You will need 100 of any one item so every bag gets the same items.

- Since we assemble the bags before the students arrive, items must arrive before Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

Items should be delivered or mailed to:

CANTON ROTARY TO SPONSOR SYMPHONY'S "BOURBON & BLUES" FUNDRAISER

In an effort to increase our exposure in the Canton Community, our Rotary Club of Canton has decided to support some of the local Canton events with other organizations.

With that in mind, we will be helping to sponsor the Canton Symphony Orchestra's "Bourbon & Blues" fundraiser on February 27th at the Barrel Room in North Canton starting at 6:30.

There will be live music, raffles, a bourbon 'pull', and lots of fun!
