Since 2010, Janet Weir Creighton has been elected to the Board of Stark County Commissioners. Creighton brings 35 years of elected experience where she has cultivated a diverse background in government and public affairs.
Creighton’s journey began in Canton/Stark County, Ohio where she served in the capacity of County Recorder, County Auditor, and as the first woman elected Mayor of the City of Canton. Her path of service took her to Washington, DC where she served as Deputy Assistant to President George W. Bush, and as Director of Intergovernmental Affairs.
Her commitment to her city, county, and state is evident with the numerous appointments on boards and commissions throughout the years. Currently, she is Vice President of the Board of Arts in Stark; a member of the Exchange Club of Canton-Stark County; serves as President of Stark Housing Network; is a member of the County Commissioners Association of Ohio; and is Vice President of the Mariners Island Condo Association. In 2000, Creighton served as General Chairperson of the Pro Football HOF Festival. Her volunteer service to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, altogether, covered an impressive 35 years.
Creighton was a founding member of Women’s Impact and was named the 1st Athena Award winner in Stark County. Women’s Impact brings established women leaders together with emerging women for mentoring.
In 2015 she was selected for the inaugural class of 25 women leaders nationwide for Women in Leadership, of the Governing Institute, a national government magazine.
She is married to William Turnbow and has two adult children, Jennifer and John. She is also a proud grandparent of two grandchildren, Benjamin and Chloe.
Canton Rotarians, partners and friends! You are invited to join us for our 2nd Fun & Fellowship Get-together this Wednesday June 9th from 4pm to 6pm+ at the new Jerzee’s Café and Sports Grille at Centennial Plaza, 330 Court Ave NW in Downtown Canton. Drinks and sandwiches are at your own expense.
Last month’s Fun & Fellowship Get-together was a lot of fun with Rotarians stopping by for a short drink, or longer with a sandwich and beer. Enjoy the casual atmosphere with a chance to mix and visit fellow Canton Rotarians and bring some friends.
Jerzee's has a great selection of food and drinks, including the famous Dick's Arcade Coney’s, over 27 craft beers, and Starbucks Coffee. You can relax at the bar with 8 video screens to view all kinds of sports or tables are available inside and outside with great servers.
Rain or shine, we will meet to enjoy each other’s company and renew the fellowship that has been missing during the Covid stay-at-home mandates. Take time to stroll around the Plaza and enjoy this new focal point for Downtown Canton.
