ADAPTING IN A TIME OF CHANGE
“Everything changes and nothing remains still”.
Plato
(Greek philosopher, circa 400 B.C.)

Plato certainly had it right when he issued that truism many centuries ago.  It still holds true today, as all of us adjust to significant changes in our daily lives.  I suppose you could expect Plato to be pretty insightful given that he was a student of Socrates and a teacher of Aristotle; those are pretty impressive credentials. The leadership of your Rotary Club of Canton is adapting to change along with you. We are looking for ways to keep the business of our club moving forward, despite the social separation that is a necessity in these times.  My message this week highlights some news and upcoming items that need your attention.

Email Election of New Officers and Directors.  While we deal with the current matters facing our club, we are looking to the future as well.  Next week, we will present our slate of incoming Directors and Officers to our membership.  This group of individuals represent some outstanding people who will help guide our club in the 2020-2021 Fiscal Year.  Each of the nominees were profiled for you in our Rotograms earlier this year and many of you know these folks personally.

This year we will be holding the election of Officers and Directors for the 2020-2021 year via Email vote.  By Monday April 6th, all of you will receive an email ballot.  Please review the list of 9 Officers and 4 directors, hit “Reply” and cast your vote.  Either type in “Yes” to approve or “No” to disapprove in your email response.  Please make every effort to reply quickly; we hope to have the election results completed by Wednesday of next week.

Plans for a Videoconference Meeting.  We are making plans to conduct a meeting via videoconference later this month.  For those of you who haven’t already attended this type of meeting, we have the ability to have all members access a “virtual room” where we can see each other and interact in a somewhat controlled environment.  It is a fun way of getting together, while staying physically separated.  There are a number of logistical issues to resolve before attempting this, so stay tuned for more specific information in future Rotograms and emails.

We’re fortunate to live in a time where “virtual” interaction is possible.  Keep looking for weekly updates on our Rotogram, via email, and Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ROTARY-CLUB-OF-CANTON-OHIO-191449020995/ .  Above all, be safe.

Warmest regards,

Mark

(* Editor's note: Contrary to popular opinion, Frank Fleischer was NOT a personal friend of Plato, nor Socrates, but they did attend high school together!)

URGENT NEED FOR VOLUNTEERS

Stark County Hunger Task Force - Urgent Need for Volunteers!

With the increased demand for emergency food we are moving our pantry operations outside and using the drive thru pantry model. This will allow us to get more food out to more people. In order to do this we need more volunteers, twice as many in fact. Help meet this critical need during these trying times by signing up for a shift or two, or three! We will be operating our pantry Monday-Friday. Share this email and link with friends to help spread the word!
