ANNUAL CHARITABLE FUND DRIVE NEARS YEAR-END
The annual Canton Rotary Charitable Fund (CRCF) drive is underway and donations are continuing to come in. However, time is now running out to take advantage of a charitable deduction for 2018.  In order to qualify, your donation must be received on or before December 31st!

Most of my communications about the CRCF have focused on the wonderful service programs the club is able to undertake because of the generosity of Rotarians.  So, I won’t repeat myself at this point in the campaign.  But please know that it is these types of community outreach efforts that reinforce our mission of “Service Above Self”.

For those of you who have not yet contributed, now is the time for all of us to give to this important part of our club.  We have several ways to give, including:  cash or check; credit card; the donation of appreciated securities; or qualified retirement distributions.  If you have any questions about the CRCG or some of the tax-advantaged ways to contribute, please give me a call.

Remember to act quickly and make this important contribution to our club before the year-end arrives!  Your gift at this wonderful time of the year will make an impact throughout the new year.

PRESENTATION OF DONATION CHECK TO PEGASUS FARM
During the December 7, 2018 meeting, Past Presidents Virginia Neutzling and Dan Fuline presented a check in the amount of $1,500 to Missy Howard from Pegasus Farm for the benefit of the Military Family Center.

PP Virginia had this to say:

"In 2007, Pegasus Farms began its veterans therapeutic equestrian program. In 2015, plans were initiated by local Rotary clubs to expand the original program. In 2017, The Military Family Center was established in a collaborative with Walsh University to provide free services to veterans, first responders and their families.

"In August of this year, our Rotary club held its first annual fund raiser to assist the Center. Despite an unbelievable August thunderstorm and because of the generosity of Canton Rotarians, especially committee chair Rich Dever, we are able to present this check to the MFC to assist them in their services."

WEEKLY MEETING NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
During the meeting on Friday, December 7, 2018, President Michelle Mullaly welcomed the 62 members and 6 guests to the meeting. The President asked everyone with a December birthday to please stand and be recognized. A "thank you" went out to Georgia, the wonderful volunteer from the church who made the delicious dessert that was provided for the members.

Sergeant-at-Arms Robert Matthews gave the Invocation.

Congratulations went to Steve Fettman for having the winning 50/50 ticket, worth $54.00!

Secretary Suzette Matthews welcomed the following guests to the meeting: Robert Fenn (speaker); Missy Howard (Military Family Center); Larry Dick (guest/husband of Julia Dick); Jerry Frisch (guest of Jerry Ortman); Gene Wong (guest of PDG/PP Dave Ewing); Richard Regula (Massillon Rotarian).

Suzette took the opportunity to say "THANK YOU" to the club's military veterans. On December 7,1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy attacked the United States Naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, killing 2,335 U.S. military personnel and 68 civilians, and wounding many others. The attack was the impetus for the United States' entry into WWII. In honor of all the Vets who served in WWII and all wars - a 'thank you' was made for the ultimate "Service Above Self".

President Michelle is the Chairwoman of the Rotary Foundation Art Auction which will take place on February 1, 2019 at the SOAP Gallery in Youngstown . She informed everyone of the donation forms on each table. If you plan to donate, please fill out a donation form and return it prior to December 15th. Your art donation will need to be submitted into the Rotary office prior to January 11, 2019. Proceeds to support Rotary Foundation projects. (* see story above for more information).

Past Presidents Virginia Neutzling and Dan Fuline then took to the podium to present a check in the amount of $1,500 to Missy Howard from Pegasus Farm for the benefit of the Military Family Center. (*see story above)

December speaker chair Dave Schrade introduced his speaker for the meeting, Robert Fenn. Robert is the Public Affairs Specialist with the Social Security Administration. His topic was "Social Security - With You Through Life's Journey".

The President concluded the meeting with the following announcements:
  • thank you to Jim Molnar who was November greeter leader;
  • reminder for anyone planning to bring guests to the next week's meeting on 12/14/18 to please contact the Rotary office or see Barb on the way out. Since this will be our Holiday program we need an accurate head count for seating and food;
  • next week, due to a full agenda, we will once again start the meeting promptly at noon.
The following Rotarians turned in makeup during Friday's meeting: Mark Rojek (Massillon); Phil Lattavo (3-Massillon, 1-Canton South); Bill Maddox (North Canton).
