DICK MAGGIORE, CO-FOUNDER, PRESIDENT AND CEO OF INNIS MAGGIORE: "MARKETING IS A BATTLE OF PERCEPTIONS, NOT TOMATOES", ON FRIDAY, MARCH 29TH

Dick Maggiore is co-founder, president and CEO of Innis Maggiore, America’s No. 1 Positioning Ad Agency. Dick is said to be America’s pre-eminent practitioner of positioning.  Positioning is the process by which a brand (a company, product or service) is marketed with the goal of owning a meaningful and differentiated idea in the mind of the customer. Positioning was named as the most important marketing concept of the 20th century in Advertising Age, the advertising industry’s leading publication.

Dick says unless they have a solid foundation in positioning, even the most clever and creative marketing programs and advertising campaigns are doomed to fail. He goes so far as to say companies that ignore positioning in their advertising are wasting their dollars.  Dick practices what he preaches as he leads the agency’s team in putting positioning into practice for the benefit of such clients as Alcoa, Bank of America, Disney, Goodyear, Microsoft, PURELL, Republic Steel, Shearer’s Snacks, Smith’s Dairy and hundreds of other companies and institutions.

Dick is an ad industry “Hall of Famer” for pioneering dimensional outdoor advertising. In 1998, the Canton Chapter of the American Advertising Federation named him Ad Person of the Year. In 2003, Dick received the distinguished Community Salute Award from the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce. In 2004, Dick received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and in 2009, Kent State University’s Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award. He is a 2013 recipient of the Distinguished Sales & Marketing Award from Sales & Marketing Executives International. In 2015, citing his more than three decades of service and leadership, Canton Advertising Federation bestowed its Lifetime Achievement Award on Dick.

Dick has addressed a diverse group of organizations over the years and is a lecturer at the University of Akron, Kent State University and Walsh University. He enjoys sharing his positioning expertise with the next generation of marketing professionals.

Dick holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from San Francisco State University. He lives in North Canton with his wife, Kathi.

THANK YOU LETTER RECEIVED FROM SHELTERBOX USA

The Rotary office received a letter dated March 19, 2019, from Kerri Murray, President of ShelterBox USA. Ms. Murray writes:

"Dear Rotary Club of Canton, Thank you for making an impact. Your generous gift will provide shelter and life-saving supplies to vulnerable people devastated by natural disaster or conflict. More than just walls and a roof, shelter is vital for the maintenance of human dignity and the protection of families. Shelter reduces vulnerability, builds community resilience and helps people begin the process of recovery.

Since the year 2000, ShelterBox has served 1.5 million people in over 100 countries around the globe. Every day, our Response Team Members are hand-delivering aid to disaster zones, in the most remote parts of the world to reach people who would otherwise be forgotten. The work of ShelterBox is only possible thanks to the generous support of people like you, who are truly making a difference. Thank you for helping create a world where no family is without shelter when disaster strikes."

HELP OUR CLUB GROW THROUGH OUR MEMBERSHIP INITIATIVES
Those of you who attended our Rotary meeting on March 8th heard about some disappointing trends in the membership of our club.  For those of you who missed the meeting, our membership has declined by over 25% over the past five years.  This loss of over 40 active members has put pressure on our club and made our ability to serve our community much more challenging. Whether due to death or illness, career changes, or a changing work environment… this is a trend that all Rotarians have to make an effort to reverse.  And we have created some membership initiatives to do just that!

The Board of Directors has approved a new Organizational Membership program.  This innovative program allows leaders of businesses and non-profits in the Canton community to become engaged in service to the club, manage their time, and involve others in their own organizations to get involved.  We have published an Organizational Membership brochure that provides all the highlights of this new program and have established a targeted list of prospective organizations.  But we need your help!

We need every Rotarian to review the targeted list and identify the organizational leaders they know personally.  Once identified, please call with the information to Lauri in our office.  We will take your insight and make a coordinated effort to reach out to every person identified.

To provide further incentive to attract new members (organizational or individual) we are asking all of you to invite a prospect to an upcoming meeting. From now until the end of June, any prospect you invite to the club can attend our meeting for free!  Simply let Lauri or Barb in our office know that you are bringing someone so we can plan accordingly.
