FELLOWSHIP MEETING THIS FRIDAY

Letter from the President
February 12, 2019

Happy Tuesday Rotarians! Once again this week is Fellowship Week. I hope that you will take time out of your busy schedule to join the meeting on Friday the 15th. We will have plenty of time to enjoy each other’s company … if you’re a committee chair and would like to get together with your crew during that time, please feel free!  Aside from great food and friendship, we will also welcome two new members to the Club as well as honor our special February Character Counts honorees. I hope to see you there!

On another note, thank you to those of you who either donated art to the District Art event or attended. It looks like we raised just around $8,000 to benefit the Rotary Foundation.

Have a great week!

BILL LIBER JR. PRESENTED WITH A PAUL HARRIS FELLOW
During the February 8, 2019 meeting, PDG/PP Dave Ewing and Rotarian Bill Liber presented a Paul Harris Fellow to Bill Liber Jr. Below is the presentation PDG/PP Dave relayed to the members regarding Bill Jr.:

Bill Liber Jr. is a Regional Director and Fatherhood Practitioner who drives positive change for families by stabilizing, supporting and empowering fathers to be successful through training to obtain employment and a healthy family life. After spending nearly five years working with Passages, Connecting Fathers & Families and advocating for some of Northeast Ohio’s most vulnerable families, Bill knows what truly inspires change and moves people forward—and it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s how well you connect with the hearts of those you’re trying to help and the action taken thereafter.

Mr. Liber helped found the Portage County Fatherhood Initiative in 2017, has helped organize over 15 community events, and is currently overseeing responsible fatherhood programming in multiple counties as part of a research study through the Ohio University and the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood. In addition to his extensive non-profit experience, he is a marketing/fundraising specialist, musician, aspiring-woodworker and former collegiate quarterback.

Bill holds a BA in organizational communications from Kent State University. He currently resides in North Canton, Ohio with his wife, Stephenie and two daughters, Maryn (age 4) and Harper (22 months).

ROTARIAN IN THE NEWS.....
Canton Museum of Art installs $300,000 storage system

In the Friday, February 8, 2019 edition of the Canton Repository, Entertainment Editor Dan Kane wrote a story featuring Canton Rotarian and Museum Executive Director Max Barton entitled "Preserving History".

"The Museum of Art's collection includes works by such masters of watercolors as Edward Hopper, Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent and Andrew Wyeth. The museum's holdings of more thank 1,500 works of art are valued in excess of $30 million.

It's no surprise then that proper preservation is a major priority. As Max Barton, the museum's executive director puts it, "Without protection, nothing else matters." This week, the museum's storage room is being equipped with a state-of-the-art storage system. The largest and most important two-dimensional artworks will be hung on rolling, floor-mounted steel racks."

WANTED: FUN-LOVING & GENEROUS ROTARIANS!

Wait, wouldn't that be , like, ALL Canton Rotarians?

At any rate, if you want to have some fun and peronally support one of Canton Rotary's favorite non-profits, I invite you to THE CANTON ROTARY TEAM for the Third Annual Rotary Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon Challenge!

On Saturday March 2nd at Park Centre Lanes, JA will be conducting their Annual Bowl-A-Thon. As part of this friend- and fund-raising event, local Rotary clubs will be competing for the coveted (?) Rotary Challenge trophy and....more importantly.....BRAGGING RIGHTS!

We would love to have a couple of teams of Canton Rotarians participate in this majorly FUN event! Cost to participate is only $10, which includes three games of bowling, shoe rental, and a commemorative tee shirt. Their are many fun games included in the Challenge that day, plus there is access to adult beverages, pizza, and other bowling alley fare.

And, it's a chance to have some serious fun with your fellow Rotarians!

Beyond that, each bowler is tasked to raise as much money as humanly possible via pledges from family, friends, co-workers, and strangers on the street (just kidding; but, hey, if it works for you......). As you can see, bowling skill is NOT a requirement!

Rotary Challenge winner will be the club that raises the most money for Junior Achievement. Canton came in a very close second to Plain Township last year, so our goal is clear: beat the pantaloons off the rest of the Rotary Clubs!

If you are interested in participating, please contact me at rickt@kozmosgrille.com, or via text or call at 330-575-2870. I will soon be receiving info on how each of us can sign up and start recording donations to our Championship effort!
