ADAM ZORN, PROGRAM MANAGER AND NATURALIST AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MOUNT UNION, TO SPEAK ON RESEARCH AND EDUCATION AT THE HUSTON-BRUMBAUGH NATURE CENTER
Presentation Summary:
The Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center serves as a biological field station for the University of Mount Union and a regional provider of environmental education for school-aged and general audiences. For several years now, the Nature Center has actively sought to blend scientific research and environmental education through public participation in workshops, guided walks, bioblitzes, first-hand observation of research, and science communication. Learn about the recent and on-going research and educational opportunities that are engaging audiences at the Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center.
 
Adam Zorn is the Program Manager and naturalist at the University of Mount Union’s Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center. Adam has been working in the outdoors for 17 years as an educator for various organizations in Ohio, Wisconsin, and New York. In his current position at the Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center, Adam is responsible for the Nature Center’s educational programs, curates databases of the Nature Center’s flora and fauna, and promotes public engagement in science and data collection.

PRESIDENT & CEO OF CANTON SYMPHONY, MICHELLE MULLALY, TO BECOME ROTARY DISTRICT 6650 DISTRICT GOVERNOR
BIG NEWS for the Rotary Club of Canton!!
 
In a press release dated August 13, 2019, the Canton Symphony Orchestra and Rotary District 6650 announced that Michelle Mullaly, President & CEO of the Canton Symphony, has been nominated to be District Governor in 2022. District Governors are selected for their proven strong leadership skills and decision making. During their year in office as Governor, clubs will look to them for leadership, support, and motivation as they carry out service projects and participate in Rotary programs. District Governors go through a rigorous application process. They must first be approved by their home club, then selected through an interview process with Past District Governors. All District Governors must have served as a President of their Club at least once and have been a member of Rotary for at least seven years. Rotary District 6650 covers 46 clubs in the North and Southeast portion of Ohio from Steubenville to Youngstown. There are over 1,750 active Rotarians in the District.
 
The Rotary Club of Canton has had numerous District Governors over its 104 year charter. Here is the list of former Canton Rotarians who stepped up to the District Governor leadership role (* deceased):

ROTARIANS IN THE NEWS....
The M. Conley Entrepreneur-Of-The-Year Award is an award to help support local business organizations to recognize entrepreneurial success. Throughout the year there will be 12 different local entrepreneurs highlighted with one winner being selected and announced. The winner will be announced and receive the Award at the Canton Regional Chamber’s 2020 Business Expo. 
 
So far, the Rotary Club of Canton has had Rotarians Ron Miller, owner of Miller & Company Sanitation Services, and Dan and Brian Spring, Co-Owners of NAI Spring, nominated for this award.  Below you will find the links to the articles for each nominee.

WEEKLY MEETING NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
During the August 9, 2019 meeting, President Mark Rojek welcomed 50 members and 22 guests to the meeting. He asked everyone to keep Rotarian Amy Mustafaga and her family in their thoughts and prayers, following the passing of her father, former long-time Canton Rotarian Roy Scheutzow.
 
Rotarian Dave Schrade gave the Invocation.
 
Greeters for the meeting were: Barry Adelman, Sam Shaheen and Dave Schrade.
 
Attendance table volunteer was PP John Werren.
 
Song leader for the meeting was PP Rick Taylor (hastily 'volunteered' by President Mark) and piano player was Bill Sparks.
 
 
Congratulations to Rotarian Jim Molnar for having the winning 50/50 ticket worth $62.00.
 
Secretary Julia Dick welcomed the following guests to the meeting:  District Governor Dan Morgan (speaker); Arlene and Bill Hazlett (parents/guests of PP Michelle Mullaly); Gail Martino (guest of PP Michelle Mullaly).
 
The "Happy News" was provided by the following:
 
  • PP Rick Taylor - happy the Cleveland sports teams are doing so well;
  •  
  • Bob Matthews - the WHBC Aultcare "Wish-a-Thon" was wrapping up, but there was still time to donate;
  •            - also, a 'flying history lesson' was taking place at the MAPS Museum over the weekend, with the Collins Foundation bringing several WWII era planes. It's a great event to which to take your family;
  •  
  • PDG Sieglinde Warren - Save the Date! Lake Township Rotary Club is rechartering their Club on October 19th at the Military Family Center in Louisville from 4 pm - 6 pm;
 
Past President Rick Taylor gave an informative update on the Oktoberfest. He stated sign-up sheets were available in the lobby for volunteers to work the event, on which you could provide your name and t-shirt size. 
 
PDG Scott Schulick took to the podium to provide an announcement from District 6650. Before the announcement was made, PDG Scott introduced the following Past District Governors who were in attendance as well their guests: PDG Jack E. Polen with his guest, Louise A. Criss; District Governor Elect Linda Henderson with her husband Fred Henderson; PDG Sieglinde Warren; PDG Larry Warren; PDG Jim Tallman with his wife Dawn Tallman; PDG Dennis Huffman; PDG Linda Fergason with her husband Bruce Ferguson; PDG Jerry Haber; PDG Joe Belinsky; PDG Phil Mariola; PDG Meena Patel with her husband Indu Patel; PDG Geoff Goll; and District Governor Nominee Steve Wilder.
 
PDG Scott's announcement was very BIG NEWS for the Rotary Club of Canton. He announced that the new District Governor Nominee Designate for the Rotary year 2022 would be our very own Past President Michelle Mullaly! Congratulations Michelle on your nomination as District Governor Nominee Designate! (Please see the article above for more details on PP Michelle's selection). 
 
President Mark then introduced the speaker for the meeting, District Governor 6650 Dan Morgan, who gave a very good presentation on his goals and aspirations for this year. DG Dan's passion for Rotary is very evident. 
 
President Mark concluded the meeting by thanking and presenting District Governor Dan with a gift of a FitBit from the Club. As with each speaker, a library book was signed by the District Governor and will be donated to the Stark County Library in honor of DG Dan's visit to the Club.
 
President Mark concluded the meeting with the following announcements:
  • Asked everyone to sign the sympathy card for Rotarian Amy Mustafaga on their way out.
  • Next week's speaker will be Adam Zorn, a University of Mount Union Arborist.
  • Encouraged all to consider being a sponsor and/or volunteer for our upcoming Oktoberfest on September 19, 2019.
  •  
The following will receive a makeup for attending the Oktoberfest committee meeting on Wednesday, August 7, 2019: Raquel Raderchak,, Bob Matthews, President Mark Rojek, Dennis Dent, Alex Dowell and PP Paul White.
